#TFTD Even though the mechanisms of RAE are likely to become ineffectual from around age 18, RAE is often found in senior professional sport as an artefact of earlier developmental selections. A recent study showed 31% Q1 v 19% Q4 across 10 seasons of 5 major Euro soccer leagues.

Save Wales: can the Hundred get cricket in the country ticking again?
Glamorgan, which uniquely represents both a county and a country, hasn't quite been in the vanguard of British cricket, but that might be set to change

Glamorgan are not an outlier amongst the 18 counties for state school professionals. Perhaps only Durham are (78% State) who equally have very few local independent schools.

I get that there are relatively few independent cricketing schools in Wales to draw upon. But what is happening is they are drawing upon indy schools outside of Wales instead... Clifton College, King's College Taunton, Reed's etc.

Being an early maturing, early born (Q1), Millfield pupil is no guide to future potential either. If both were CAG players, it's likely that the triple advantaged player will be (currently) better BUT I would argue the triple disadvantaged player is likely 'the long win' from a system pov.

Make more informed decisions. Realise that late born &/or late starters won't be at the same level s early born &/or very experienced players. Coaches should select players who are (currently) worse than others based on these (& other) attributes for 'The Long Win'.

Great Q. Jimmy Anderson has the highest WCaps value of 1347, ahead of Root (1225), Stokes (871), Buttler (838) & Bairstow (794). Removing the highest valued player from each of the 4 groups (State/Early, State/Late, Indy/Early, Indy/Late) doesn't change the relationship however.

52% of male professionals were independently schooled. 84% of these paid between 10% & 100% of the fees (only 16% had 90%+ scholarships),(ECB, 2024). 6-7% who are independently schooled in the UK. Most from the top 100 cricketing schools out of approx 1500 senior independent schools.

The great batters have historically been on the shorter side. T20 is changing that. Here is why

😄 Height is an interesting one. I'd suggest there is a trend towards taller batters now too, esp for white ball, mechanical advs for power hitting. Why develop a fast bowler who will only ever be 5' 8". They may well be good (enough) but its increasing the risk of wasted dev (precious) resource.

By regularly measuring height/weight and knowing ht/wt of bio parents, then a fairly accurate predicted adult height can be obtained from the Khamis-Roche calculation. Doing this also helps to monitor growth spurts and help prevent injury.
