I'm sure Chris Hansen could guess why...

The interesting bit is whether a misaligned AI model could produce tests that obscure results or bypass safeguards to get that hypothetical drug certified for use without any of the humans catching on until irreparable harm is caused, especially after the trials have been passed.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Now you have a drug which has passed three phases of clinical trials and all associated reviews but the design of each trial was handled by the same AI and may or may not have been intentionally designed to hide/obscure known problems, particularly longer term problems.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Phase 3 is also designed by the AI but are proper randomised controlled multicenter trials (multiple independent facilities conducting the trial procedures) as is required for phase 3. Suppose it passes.

Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
NGL I think this version is more interesting. i.e. You have an AI design a model and develop some super drug. It then designs the clinical trials which go through your standard approval boards and those trials. phase 1, 2 are run by staff under direction of the AI but supervised by clinical staff

It'd be interesting to see each method of assistance and how impactful having it taken away is, how long it takes to recover, and where AI sits in that mix. Sorry for the rant but that study had so much wasted potential.

Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Like I wonder how it would compare to a scenario where the user is given a 4 function calculator (for ex2), pen and paper (also for ex2), a short list of context clues (ex3) instead of a useless bit of static text, or the ability to change your answer if you get it wrong.
150
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
It would be interesting though to see the latter experiments extended to a longer test scenario as I'd suspect the loss of AI is more impactful than the loss of "general study tips" in a little sidebar. And notably the AI user scores seem to start converging back to the control after a few questions
140
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
The latter two experiments do show results of varying degrees of statistical significance (from none to some) but have major flaws mainly stemming from the fact the people taking these quizzes are paid less than enough to get a meal at mcdonalds and the quizzes are only a few questions long.
140
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Yeah like the first experiment which showed the most "impressive" results was essentially invalidated as soon as they controlled for the fact that they weren't excluding people who couldn't do complete basic problems in the first place.

I mean yeah stage 3 is "characterise immediate and short term side effects as well as efficacy in a reasonably sized population". Stage 4 comes along later to characterise long term side effects and efficacy in populations outside those specifically targetted in the initial trials.
010
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Well not necessarily. That would only be after your phase 4 trials (after the drug has seen some use and long term effects have been characterised) There's plenty of cases where a drug clearly works and we know it does without really understanding why or whether the long term effects are "worth it"
010
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Yep. Hence it not necessarily being the best treatment for a given cancer. It's passed phase 3 so we'd have a decent handle on it but whether it actually gets used for a specific patient would entirely depend on said patient, how far along they are, their personal risk tolerance, etc.

Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
TLDR the end goal is to have a "multichain" ecosystem w/ a full spectrum up trust-vs-independence and everybody can pick their preference & adjust as necessary in response to the state of the world without getting boxed in by a monopoly or oligopoly (and some of us would do cyber-mutual-credit too)
000
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Now you as a user may have your acct with a bank/org or your govt acct. But you may also have an acct that's effectively equivalent to digital cash. It's yours with basically no rules but few protections past the law and the network it's on.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
But then you'd have these bigger "zero trust" networks which connect all these other smaller more specialised networks and provide mechanisms for all of them to interact in a more or less seamless way with common cryptographic infra.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
Then some countries or states may set up their own networks as well tied to user IDs with reversable and auditable but otherwise private Tx. Under the hood this would involve consensus being done by the municipalities/local govts to coordinate the state/national network.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
So in a hypothetical mature cryptocurrency ecosystem you'd have institutions like community banks, ROSCAs, Tandas, Susus, Chits, etc and they'd be the ones holding the keys via some multisig. These orgs can set up a network between each other w/ reversable Tx and put delays/checks on other Tx.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
NGL you kinda see this with bluesky/atproto. One of the core innovations in the cryptocurrency space was DIDs which are the backbone of bsky/atproto's identity. Every handle/acct is backed by a DID.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 11/10/2026
NGL it's partially just immaturity and partially ideology by some in the industry. Cryptocurrency as a whole isn't necessarily intended for every person to control their keys, just for them to have the option to without cutting the people who choose to own their keys off from the rest.

Not even just soldering a spy chip to their wallets. They had custom boards designed and manufactured with the ledger stylisation and branding on them which they they mated to the original ledger boards before resealing the tamper protection. It was a very professional supply chain attack.

Which tbf is basically the local first, community driven, anti-capitalist, and FOSS approach a lot of the more sane people who tolerate AI are pushing for. i.e. burn down the big AI corps and instead transfer AI development to the universities and the commons.

FWIW The Luddites were right but afaiui most luddites weren't anti-mechanical loom but rather anti-mechanical loom in a big factory that tries to undercut the local trades and then employ their children in extremely dangerous work for a fraction of the pay and no long term stability.

Because even if a cancer treatment passes phase 3 it still caries trade offs and if there are other known treatments for the specific type of cancer with well quantified risk profiles, then if said cancer is caught early on/at a manageable point then those would be preferable.

At least the advantage here is that its pretty trivial to just turn people's bad opinions off. Like there's a modlist or labeller for everything. Also the "terminally online" labels (@stechlab-labels.bsky.social) are a godsend for this shit.

Should themes persist with settubg sync? They don't seem to be doing so for me. Also is there a way to default to settings sync-on when logging in? Maybe an added checkmark or maybe adding a record somewhere that the app checks first?

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

AFAIUI they don't care if you run in a modified environment that potentially gives more information (ex memory inspection) or allows automation which is something that EAC cracks down on VMs for but they can't turn it off either. But they do want EAC for "the rest of it".
000
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 02/10/2026
Also some scumbags started bundling mods and shipping them with keyloggers, etc. So they picked up EAC and added a server side anti-cheat as well in an attempt to remedy some of this.
100
Missino @onedeuxtriseigo.nullpo.dev · 02/10/2026
Yeah TLDR they added EAC a few years ago and started upstreaming as many accessibility/QOL mods as they could because of issues with certain mods ruining it for everyone. "crashers" started becoming common and people with those crash mods would go in and kill the server or other clients.
