Fwiw the underlying quote is not "invite the nazis" but instead "make it easier for users to come in focused on specific hobbies (ex: sports) without getting consumed alive by the discover feed".
Yeah. This is Jack Dorsey saying Twitter wants to be AT Protocol, not a product. Here we are, and that’s Bluesky in big ways, but it is also a product. People know what that logo means. Political pundits say “the Bluesky crowd,” and that signifies whatever they want it to signify. I’m just wondering if you want to break that branding in any meaningful way.

Yeah, we want to expand it. “Breaking” is maybe the wrong word, but yes, we want to expand more and more so that Bluesky means not just one thing, not just liberal politics, for example. I will point to sports as an example from the last year. We’ve made a very concerted effort to bring on sports leagues and sports writers, and it’s worked really well. There are a ton of sports conversations now on the app, and those people come here for the sports, not for the liberal politics. It’s possible to expand.

In politics, it’s probably our hardest challenge because we have one type of user base there that’s very active. That’s good too. They are super active, and they’re very much at the forefront of politics and very engaged and very informed. But we can just keep adding more communities so that it balances out.

10k/sqmi is totally walkable. I lived in Yokosuka for a while and it's around 10k/sqmi and the reason it's that density is because half the land is large dedicated park space.

And to talk about actual practicality here. Have you looked at what Blender has built their experimental MCP server for? They built it as a technical/diagnostics tool to help artists find perf issues in their scenes without needing to be Blender wizards. www.blender.org/lab/mcp-serv...
Example 1: Scene Analysis

MCP can be used to programatically analyze the scene for performance bottomnecks. Take for instance the Classroom demo file:
Classroom demo file.

<Image of a Blender benchmark scene>

This scene is one of the Blender benchmark files. The reason those files are in the benchmark is because they are a good representation of real production files created by artists. And it is no surprise that it can contain objects prone to be optimized.

While checking for polygon count is often enough, even more interesting is to plot the number of polygons based on how big they show on the final render. This can be obtained with the following prompt.

Analyze the scene and list the outliers: objects with highest polygon count but smaller size from the camera point of view.

The plotted resulting data shows clearly two objects which stand out from the rest: alphabet and coat 1:
Graph analysis of the polycount per screen area
Graph analysis of the polycount per screen area for the classroom demo scene.

<Graph of polygon counts vs screen area>

The alphabet object has 20k polygons. Because of its flat disposition it could be replaced by a texture with little downside to the final result. The coat 1 object has 37k polygons due to its Subsurf modifier. Lowering the subdivision level could alleviate the scene, if memory was the bottleneck in your system.

From the Blender announcement (not whatever Anthropic says): There are no strings attached that force Blender devs to work on AI stuff. Some of them have worked on AI stuff because they wanted to but not out of some contract requirement.
This support will be dedicated towards Blender core development, to maintain and continuously improve foundational features like the Blender Python API, which enables developers and artists alike to extend and improve the software for custom workflows.

That Disco quote always makes me think of this passage from Erich Fromm's "The Authoritarian Personality" www.marxists.org/archive/from...
The passive-authoritarian, or in other words, the masochistic and submissive character aims — at least subconsciously — to become a part of a larger unit, a pendant, a particle, at least a small one, of this “great” person, this “great” institution, or this “great” idea. The person, institution, or idea may actually be significant, powerful, or just incredibly inflated by the individual believing in them. What is necessary, is that — in a subjective manner — the individual is convinced that “his” leader, party, state, or idea is all-powerful and supreme, that he himself is strong and great, that he is a part of something “greater.” The paradox of this passive form of the authoritarian character is: the individual belittles himself so that he can — as part of something greater — become great himself. The individual wants to receive commands, so that he does not have the necessity to make decisions and carry responsibility. This masochistic individual looking for dependency is in his depth frightened -often only subconsciously — a feeling of inferiority, powerlessness, aloneness. Because of this, he is looking for the “leader,” the great power, to feel safe and protected through participation and to overcome his own inferiority. Subconsciously, he feels his own powerlessness and needs the leader to control this feeling. This masochistic and submissive individual, who fears freedom and escapes into idolatry, is the person on which the authoritarian systems — Nazism and Stalinism — rest.

A point in breakfast's favour is this note from the recipe article suggesting an alteration adding bacon for a breakfast specific variant.
My version is less sweet than the gyeran-ppang I had in Korea, and I also added mozzarella cheese. This recipe calls for milk, but you can replace milk with water. I can imagine some of you are looking at this recipe and thinking of adding bacon to make a breakfast gyeran-ppang. Good idea!

You mean the trials at York? To quote wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luddite...
Government officials sought to suppress the Luddite movement with a mass trial at York in January 1813, following the attack on Cartwrights Mill at Rawfolds near Cleckheaton. The government charged over 60 men, including Mellor and his companions, with various crimes in connection with Luddite activities. While some of those charged were actual Luddites, many had no connection to the movement. Although the proceedings were legitimate jury trials, many were abandoned due to lack of evidence and 30 men were acquitted. These trials were intended to act as show trials to deter other Luddites from continuing their activities. The harsh sentences of those found guilty, which included execution and penal transportation, quickly ended the movement.[5][37] Parliament made "machine breaking" (i.e. industrial sabotage) a capital crime with the Destruction of Stocking Frames, etc. Act 1812.[38] Lord Byron opposed this legislation, becoming one of the few prominent defenders of the Luddites after the treatment of the defendants at the York trials.[39]

Does 6.3 not address exactly this concern? > 6.3 If You or We assign the rights or obligations received through this Agreement to a third party, as a condition of the assignment, that third party must agree in writing to abide by all the rights and obligations in the Agreement.
6. Miscellaneous

6.1 This Agreement will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Sweden excluding its conflicts of law provisions. Under certain circumstances, the governing law in this section might be superseded by the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods ("UN Convention") and the parties intend to avoid the application of the UN Convention to this Agreement and, thus, exclude the application of the UN Convention in its entirety to this Agreement.

6.2 This Agreement sets out the entire agreement between You and Us for Your Contributions to Us and overrides all other agreements or understandings.

6.3 If You or We assign the rights or obligations received through this Agreement to a third party, as a condition of the assignment, that third party must agree in writing to abide by all the rights and obligations in the Agreement.

6.4 The failure of either party to require performance by the other party of any provision of this Agreement in one situation shall not affect the right of a party to require such performance at any time in the future. A waiver of performance under a provision in one situation shall not be considered a waiver of the performance of the provision in the future or a waiver of the provision in its entirety.

6.5 If any provision of this Agreement is found void and unenforceable, such provision will be replaced to the extent possible with a provision that comes closest to the meaning of the original provision and which is enforceable. The terms and conditions set forth in this Agreement shall apply notwithstanding any failure of essential purpose of this Agreement or any limited remedy to the maximum extent possible under law.

Copyright Assignment Option 5 allows any commercial license but requires it also be licensed under the original license terms provided at the time the CLA was signed. So if they want to drop AGPLv3 they have to get new CLAs from everyone.
2.3 Outbound License (Option Five)

Based on the grant of rights in Sections 2.1 and 2.2, if We include Your Contribution in a Material, We may license the Contribution under any license, including copyleft, permissive, commercial, or proprietary licenses. As a condition on the exercise of this right, We agree to also license the Contribution under the terms of the license or licenses which We are using for the Material on the Submission Date.

I would generally agree with you but they are using a well defined CLA. Specifically it's the Harmony Individual CLA with Copyright Assignment Option 5. Harmony Agreements have clarifications on their FAQ for this as well: www.harmonyagreements.org/guide
Section 2.1(f) is a set of five mutually exclusive options around how the project handles the outbound license of the Contribution (the options are identical to those in the copyright license version). The different options are provided to fit the most common variations in cultural values across FOSS projects. Options One through Four define a set of outbound licenses which are the only licenses the project may use when distributing the Contribution. These options also include the right to use future versions of the licenses, such as a move from GPLv2 to GPLv3. Option Five puts no restrictions on the project's choice of outbound license, but promises to make the Contribution available under the same license as the Work it was contributed to. Any of these options are appropriate for use with copyleft outbound licenses (such as the GPL) or permissive outbound licenses (such as the BSD). The outbound licenses specified by each option are the following (where "original licenses" means the license(s) that the Work was released under when the Contribution was Submitted):

    Option One: The original licenses
Option Two: The original licenses and any additional licenses listed.
Option Three: The original licenses and any additional licenses approved by the Open Source Initiative.
Option Four: The original licenses and any additional licenses recommended by the Free Software Foundation.
Option Five: Any license, with the promise back that the contribution will also be licensed under the original licenses.

Okay I'm actually going to give Jeffries credit here. He's actually proposing a reasonable thing and trying to get it put in because the federal government is incapable of investigating itself. Specifically he is requiring the CR include wording granting local and state authority to prosecute ICE.
Jeffries also stipulated that there must be language in any new DHS bill empowering state and local law enforcers to conduct their own investigations, and perhaps bring their own charges in cases of alleged misconduct by DHS officers.

“Those investigations cannot be conducted independently by the Department of Justice or by anyone closely associated with the Trump administration. They have no credibility to investigate anything,” Jeffries said. “And so, state and local law enforcement should explicitly have the authority to investigate crimes that are committed by DHS agents in their state and local jurisdictions.”

Honestly this sequence of replies from yall just sums up my entire feeling about tree. Like the absolute unabashed arrogance to claim you are proudly anti-racist and oh so well politically educated but then to claim you have no idea what blackface is because you are a poor little european bean.
burningtree commented 1 hour ago

> Your Blacksky account’s avatar looked like blackface and it was an obvious bad faith troll account, of course it got suspended — it’s silly and discrediting to the rest of your case to act as if you have no idea why it got taken down.

@dame-is I had never heard of "blackface" before this accusation. I inverted my avatar's colors to differentiate the test account from my main profile — thats my standard technical practice.

I'm from Central Europe. American racial dynamics aren't part of my cultural background. The fact that you immediately assumed racist intent rather than a simple technical decision to distinguish accounts says more about your determination to find malice than about my intentions.

It's still same pattern: every action gets interpreted through the worst possible lens. A color-inverted avatar becomes "obvious blackface". Pointing out the groups that bullies me is "racism". An architectural critique becomes racism.

Tree, this is just embarrassing man. You're throwing around big words like "power dynamic" and "ideological conformity" as if you understand these concepts. Your behavior clearly shows the opposite. Multiple people, in good faith, tried to explain how your actions might have been interpreted as racist, offensive, etc but you kept doubling down. This entire post is sophistry.

@burningtree I didn’t say “obvious blackface”, I said it looked like blackface. Cause it does. Especially in the context of antagonizing a community of black people. You really need to stop using the “I’m European” as an excuse for your extreme ignorance. You’re capable of learning about the experience of people outside your country/region. If you lack even the basic understanding of racism within the United States, you should have stayed out of the conversation cause you clearly aren’t knowledgeable enough to participate. Not knowing about something as basic as blackface while attempting to tell Rudy what he should be doing is incredibly offensive. Stay in your lane, read the room, and maybe pick up a book to educate yourself before giving unsolicited advice to a community you yourself admit you know hardly anything about.

So the answers that can weight towards socialism are the following:
\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Healthcare

A: Both Healthcare and treatment should be directly provided and
guaranteed to all citizens by the nation

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Minimum Wage

A: The majority of working people should be paid the value of their
labor (with a minimum, a comfortable living wage). There should
also be a maximum wage, and managers and executives should be paid
   a lot less.

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Internet Service Providers

A: High Speed Internet Service Providers must be nationalized. They
aren't able to have fair competition due to the cost of laying out
   cables, especially in rural areas

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Universal Basic Income

A: I support a universal wage a bit lower than the average wage more
than a basic income. Those who cannot work due to medical
conditions, temporary unemployment, or in retirement should receive
it, and the employed should be guaranteed at least that much.

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Utilities

A: Utilities such as electricity and water should be nationalized.
They are public goods that everyone needs. Public control allows
the best quality since in many places, there is only one option

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Private Schools

A: The state should own all schools. This makes it easier to ensure
all our students have an equal opportunity to succeed

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Outsourcing

A: The Government should nationalize all manufacturing in the nation,
   and should not outsource jobs

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Bank Crashing that Will Damage the Economy

A: We should create a single national government-owned bank, and buy
all the current banks including the one that is failing. This
ensures everyone can pay the same rates and that we can take on the
   debt the failing one owes
A: The issue is that we have private megabanks. We should instead have
local-government-owned community banks that work in the interests
of the communities they represent and fund businesses in the area
A: Banks should not exist in any form

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Highways

A: Highways should be operated by the national government. This
ensures we can guarantee road quality nationwide that is free for
everyone, and should employ a lot of people to work on ensuring top
   quality

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: National Debt

A: The government controls the currency. We can print more money when
we need more money, and legislate prices to stay level to keep
   inflation from becoming a problem

\\------------------------------------------------------------------\\

Q: Consumer Goods Production

A: Government-owned industry should manufacture all consumer goods for
   the population

Oh also probably this is the most damning one from earlier in the article
Moyers: And they saw America doing that in regard to people of color, particularly black people.

Whitman: Boy, did they ever. In fact, they saw America doing it in a more radical fashion than any of the Nazis themselves ever advocated. I mentioned earlier the demands of the radicals during the early Nazi period in 1933, which were embodied in something called the Prussian Memorandum. Kind of a sinister name, but that’s what it was. The Prussian Memorandum specifically invoked Jim Crow as a model for the new Nazi program, and here’s the irony: The Prussian Memorandum also insisted that Jim Crow went further than the Nazis themselves would desire to go. They were planning to ban offensive socialization between the races if it took place in public but not in private. They went on to observe that the Americans went even further than that, banning interactions even in private. As Nazi debates continued, however, there was a great deal of disagreement over whether anything like Jim Crow segregation was appropriate for Nazi Germany. In fact, if you read the stenographic transcript of that meeting we’re talking about, you’ll come across a leading Nazi radical who denied that segregation would work in Germany. As he put it, “The Jews are just much too rich and powerful. Segregation of the Jim Crow kind could really only be effective against a population that was already oppressed and impoverished,” like the African-American population in America.

situation. One of the shocking things about my research was to come to terms with the fact that American definitions of who counted as black or members of other races were much more far-reaching and draconian than anything the Nazis themselves came up with.

Moyers: Bilbo said, “One drop of Negro blood placed in the veins of the purest Caucasian destroys the inventive genius of his mind and palsies his creative faculty.” Is it true that the Nazis thought the one-drop rule too extreme?

Whitman: They did indeed. They never proposed anything nearly as extreme as the one-drop rule. In fact the standard, the most far-reaching Nazi definitions of who counted as a Jew, matched the least far-reaching ones to be found in the American states. Virtually all American definitions of who counted as a black were far more draconian than anything found in any Nazi proposal. At the same time, the Nazi literature expressed real discomfort about the so-called one-drop rule, which, I have to say, was not found in every American state, as there were a variety of approaches in the US. But it was understandably notorious. The Nazis, difficult as it is to imagine, described the one-drop rule as inhuman, as “involving human hardness that’s going much, much too far, you couldn’t do that kind of thing,” they said. And their own definitions for who counted as a Jew, especially those that were ultimately attached to the Nuremberg Laws, were more restricted than anything to be found in American states at the time.

I'm reminded of an absolutely damning article on how America, in particular FDR's America inspired Nazi Germany and fascism abroad. (as FDR was president for essentially the entire rise of fascism, serving as president from 1933 to 1945)
Moyers: I watched the mayoral debate on Oct. 10 here in New York City. It was a noisy, raucous affair, and I remembered your writing that the Nazis didn’t like New York City. They saw it as a place where “the representatives of the races” gathered to create “a mishmash of ideas and people,” a place marked by a great influence of the Jews, which made institutions like Columbia University centers of radicalism, and they thought that the true America by contrast was Anglo-Saxon and Protestant.

Whitman: That’s what they said. I’m sure New York was a fun place to visit regardless. Even if you were a Nazi. But it’s true, they regarded the city of New York as just a hotbed of what Hitler called “Jewish elements” and were very, very suspicious of that same brash New York culture you’ve just described in the debate.

Those particular quotes, which were typical, I should say, of the far-right wing in Germany — far-right wingers have been saying things like that about New York for a long time — were from a Nazi book written in praise of Franklin Roosevelt as someone whom the Nazis at first thought exemplified some of the same virtues of their Führer in the early 1930s. That’s another uncomfortable piece of this story.Moyers: How so?

Whitman: They often described him as a dictator. So did Mussolini, in fact. They thought that New Deal policies, intended of course to address the horrors, or the economic difficulties let’s call them, of the Great Depression, resembled Nazi efforts to do the same thing, which in fact they did. I mean, these were in some ways similar programs, as historians have shown. Some of the Nazi literature at the time said Roosevelt obviously aspired to do the same sorts of things Hitler was doing but who lacked the sort of paramilitary organization, a party army, that was used in Germany to support Hitler’s efforts. This was a pretty widespread impression. The Italian fascists thought similar things of the early New Deal.

So take the first programs of 1933 and 1934 — in particular what was called the National Recovery Administration, eventually struck down by the Supreme Court — when Mussolini was shown the plan for it, he said, “É un dittatore.” “That’s a dictator.” The perception that Roosevelt really was moving in the same direction as Central European dictators was pretty widespread in those countries in the early 1930s. Later on it became clear that it wasn’t the case. But, again — we don’t like to remember it, but especially in the early years of the New Deal, the Roosevelt administration depended very, very heavily on the support of the segregationist South. Roosevelt was very careful not to cross those Southern Democrats and that may also have contributed to the impression in Nazi Germany and elsewhere that there was something kindred in the New Deal regime to what they were doing.Moyers: So that in the early ’30s, when these Nazi lawyers were engaged in creating a race law founded in part on anti-miscegenation law and race-based immigration, they came looking for foreign models and found some in the US.

Whitman: Yes, and studied them very, very carefully. That’s not only true of anti-miscegenation law. The passage that you just quoted earlier on about American immigration law was the product of a lot of very careful study of that law. They worked hard to learn what was going on in the US. And in particular, as you say, they worked very hard trying to understand or to master American anti-miscegenation law. Thirty American states had anti-miscegenation statutes. These were by no means limited to the American South. They were found all over the country. They didn’t target only blacks. They were also particularly devoted to banning and sometimes criminalizing marriages and sex between Caucasians and Asians, Caucasians and Native Americans — it goes on and on. Anti-miscegenation laws were a national phenomenon. At the meeting on June 5, 1934, the memorandum discussed by the minister of justice was accompanied by a list which detailed the anti-miscegenation provisions found in all 30 of the states that had them. And the law of those states was discussed in detail — I would almost say excruciating detail. They were really looking to see what they could learn from the US.

Moyers: You have a quote from that transcript of this meeting. One Nazi says to the state secretary, “I’m reminded of something an American said to us recently. He explained, ‘We do the same thing you Germans are doing, but why do you have to say it so explicitly in your German laws?’” And the state secretary answered, “But the Americans put it in their own laws even more explicitly.” Was he right?

Whitman: He was. It’s quite a memorable exchange, I have to say.Moyers:You write that the US Supreme Court entertained briefs from southern states whose arguments were indistinguishable from those of the Nazis

Whitman:They were. The sorts of things the Nazis said, often using terms like mongrelization and bastardization of the population were also often said by Southern racists. It was exactly the same vocabulary

Moyers:Let me read to you.Heres a quote from a Maryland statute in 1957—1957!—that you include in the book:

All marriages between a white person & a Negro, or between a white person& a person of Negro descent, to the third generation, inclusive, or between a white person & a member of the Malay race or between a Negro & a member of the Malay race, or between a person of Negro descent, to the third generation, inclusive,& a member of the Malay race, or between a person of Negro descent,to the third generation, inclusive,& a member of the Malay race or between a Negro & member of the Malay race, or between a person of Negro descent, to the third generation, inclusive, are forever prohibited & shall be void;& any person violating the provisions of this section shall be deemed guilty of an infamous crime& be punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary for not less than eighteen months or more than 10 years

That was Maryland law

Whitman: Yes, and it wasnt the only one. Laws of that kind werent ruled unconstitutional until 1967 by the Supreme Court in the famous case of Loving v Virginia. You could find them all over the United States & they were of great interest to the radical Nazis. The idea that racially mixed marriage was somehow objectionable was pretty widespread in the world in the early 20th century.Racism was something you found everywhere. But criminalization of the American kind was something that you just couldnt find elsewhere, particularly criminalization of such harshness as to threaten 10 years of imprisonment. That was was of tremendous interest to radical Nazis who wanted exactly the same thing for Germany

Everyone seems to be getting the wrong takeaway from that graph. It's basically "the right is a loose coalition of strongly held views on controversial topics". Below is the actual study and the picture is the list of questions asked (Appendix S1) bpspsychub.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...
a.1) Items used in Survey

Thinking about the USA today, please indicate the extent to which you agree with each of the following statements:
Item 1) Abortion should be illegal.
Item 2) The government should take steps to make incomes more equal.
Item 3) All unauthorized immigrants should be sent back to their home country.
Item 4) The federal budget for welfare programs should be increased.
Item 5) Lesbian, gay and trans couples should be allowed to legally marry.
Item 6) The government should regulate business to protect the environment.
Item 7) The federal government should make it more difficult to buy a gun.
Item 8) The federal government should make a concerted effort to improve social and economic conditions for African Americans.

a.1) Items used in ANES
In the following, we report the selected items from the ANES dataset. In contrast to the items for the convenience sample that followed the structure of a classical Likert scale, the ANES items presented different (ordinal) options. For example, four possible answers for the ANES abortion item were:
1. By law, abortion should never be permitted
2. The law should permit abortion only in case of rape, incest, or when the woman’s life is in danger
3. The law should permit abortion other than for rape/incest/danger to woman but only after need clearly established
4. By law, a woman should always be able to obtain an abortion as a matter of personal choice
