I once wrote a biography on Jack Kirby for a middle school assignment, only to have it rejected for not being "historical enough." 🙄 So I wrote a new one on Harry S. Truman. But I still have my Kirby bio w/ its laminated cover and a traced drawing of his portrait. Happy birthday, Jack Kirby.

Got a treat in the mail today. 🎃🎃🎃 The Witching Season anthology looks really slick. Great work by @illaurastrates.bsky.social, @cerealpancake.bsky.social, @comicuno.bsky.social, @philfalcowrites.bsky.social and everyone involved.

Comic book cover for the Witching Season. A woman covered in glowing sigils lays in a flower bed eating a pomegranate. Juices from the fruit drip across her body.

Sharing more comic pages! "The Fireplace" with art by @tench.bsky.social A few panels from a horror/comedy 3-pager. Tench's establishing shot of the Echo Park Neighborhood always makes me smile. #comics #indie #WIP

Comic panel: A person pushes their dog in a carrier along the sidewalk. An Echo park apartment building sits with palm trees in the background.

Comic panel. A man holding an letter discovers a demon possessed woman floating in his apartment.

Comic panels: A man holding a letter is pulled into a fiery portal by demonic claws. We see a close up his eye has the claws cover his face pulling him in further.

Sharing more Comic pages! "Dalton 89" with artwork by @illaurastrates.bsky.social First page and select panels from family drama/time-travel short comic. All sorts of influences on display: James Bond, Back to the Future, and ’90s Cable with all those pockets. #indie #comics

Comic page. Establishing shot of a shabby home at night. Inside a mother cooks mac and cheese on the stove while she smokes a cigarette. Close up on VHS cases from Blockbuster: Ghost and License to Kill. A young boy mimic an image of James Bond on the TV - pointing finger guns. He approaches the kitchen, sneaking up on his mother.

Comic panel. A young boy hides behind his mother from a man holding a belt.

Comic panels. A futuristic man enters a room though a glowing portal. A man in a white sleeveless undershirt, confronts the futuristic man. The man in the sleeveless undershirt is thrown through a window.

Comic book pages! "The Witch" w/ art by @redribbonrobot.bsky.social Here are the first two in-progress pages of a short post-dystopian adventure. I won’t deny the Future Boy Conan inspirations here. #indie #comic

Comic book page. Exterior view of an island. Panels show two boys visiting a mysterious cave.

Scary eyes peer out of the shadows of the cave and frighten the boys. They run off screaming. The final panel reveals the "eyes" are dots on surveillance cameras.

Happy Dr. Richard Kimble Day everyone

Harrison Ford as Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive wearing an olive-green sateen fishtail parka with a hoodie underneath and a kelly green derby hat with gold trim. his hands are in his pockets, he's looking furtively behind him (at us), surrounded by people in a St. Patrick's Day parade.

Reading the Batman/Deadpool comic, you could criticize Morrison for having run out of ideas. But who cares when revisiting his greatest hits is this much fun. Plus Dan Mora, as always, crushes it.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.
