Cats tricked us! They tricked us without even trying! We turned wolves into dogs, but cats are still cats and still wild because our stupid human brains don't perceive them as something that needs to be tamed. Anyway, please enjoy these pictures of the two small monsters that live in my house.

Do you think if I stare at this picture for long enough I can magically manifest Go for it Nakamura-kun season 2 into existence through sheer force of will? I mean I have to try right?

What are some stories where ultimate victory over the primary antagonist comes in the form of denying them the chance to kill themselves? It happened recently in Sparks of Tomorrow and in Tokyo Godfathers, but those are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

Finding out Akeji Fujimura who drew As The God's Will also did artwork for the live action Look Back movie is a huge "Special interests colluding" moment for me. This is extremely awesome for me specifically, they drew all the Shark Kick covers, I'm so glad I live in a reality where this happened.

A new illustration from Sparks of Tomorrow showing a scene from the near future! Everyone has grown and matured, except for Yosuke Mizoe who's still a brat. My guess is Mr. Izo isn't in the picture because he's the one taking the photo.

To me the most interesting part of this interview is that "story that takes a positive view of death" describes most of what Fujimoto has written, but apparently he hasn't been doing it on purpose he just starts subconsciously writing that way after not sleeping for too long.

I gotta say it feels like a real missed opportunity to never have Yosuke and his sister directly interact, yet another reason we need Sparks of Tomorrow season 2.

So you see the lesson to be learned from Sparks of Tomorrow is if you don't allow yourself to properly mourn your dead boyfriend you will inevitably turn into a combination of steampunk Dr. Frankenstein and the Slenderman.

I just watched the final episode of Sparks of Tomorrow and I loved it. They really leaned into the psychological horror aspect for the climax in a way I absolutely adored. I went into this anime with zero expectations, but it ended up being one of my favorite series of the year.

Some of the cat boys that have appeared in Chainsmoker Cat: Shuran (Kaisai's bratty brother, loves pranks and rage baiting, may genuinely be into the landlord), Hameneko's father (has a cute nyaotube show with his wife), Yari Neko (likes stabbing), and Hirakawa (works with Mankasu, 33 years old).

Fun fact: Seiroku's speech to Yosuke in Sparks of Tomorrow episode 9 about steam and electricity working hand in hand is both homoerotic and a factually accurate technological statement because the vast majority of electricity in the world is generated by steam turbines.

Steam powered grief psychosis

020

Omoly @omoly.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

So it turns out Sparks of Tomorrow is about grief. I probably should have picked up on that sooner, but Yosuke's failed "reunion" with the steam powered android he built to replace his dead boyfriend is what finally made me realize the underlying narrative theme of the show.

020

Omoly @omoly.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

Are Yousuke Mizoe from Sparks of Tomorrow and Hirofumi Yoshida from Chainsaw Man the same species of anime boy? I say "yes". Yoshida is passively doomed by the narrative via his inaction, while Yosuke is actively doomed by his choices, but they are both inarguably doomed and gay.

010

Omoly @omoly.bsky.social · 15/09/2026

Yosuke Mizoe from Sparks of Tomorrow is like if Daffy Duck was an anime pretty boy with a perfect ass, which is such a perfect character concept that I'm amazed no thought of it sooner. Bravo Sparks of Tomorrow writing staff, 10/10 you have truly achieved perfection.

Omoly @omoly.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

More Sparks of Tomorrow yapping: I really like the designs of Inako's two friends. Apparently neither of them are in the original novel, I guess the animators just wanted to draw some cute girls and I believe they were right to do so.

The first episode of Sparks of Tomorrow has a beautifully animated symbolic scene where a character's downfall into madness and obsession is foreshadowed by them slipping on a banana peel. I'm beginning to suspect this may be one of the greatest animes of all time.

100

Omoly @omoly.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

Just started watching Sparks of Tomorrow, it takes place in an alternate universe where everyone who helped invent electricity died prematurely. Thomas Edison's name isn't listed among the deaths implying he lived, but never accomplished anything because there was no one for him to steal ideas from.

Lara is a lesbian and Luca is gay, I strongly suspect this is the reason they weren't able to maintain a romantic relationship. They make great friends though.

Fujimoto's monthly recommendation post is out, but I'm a little unsure what exactly he's recommending. The auto translation says it's something called "Jigoku Moyou" but searching for that provided unclear results. Does anyone out there know what movie, manga, or tv show he's talking about?

I was messing around in Photoshop and decided to slap together a Family Guy joke about Chainsaw Man Part 2's unoriginal ending, but now that it's finished it feels too mean. I'm sorry Pochita; you did your best.

Pochita in the role of Meg from Family Guy complains about how fellow time loopers Takopi, Homura, and Emporio always act better than him. Also the Golden Turd is there, and some pictures of Spiderman.
