"WFP employee Ahmed Ba‘Alawi, detained by Houthis, has died.." No, NO. He was kidnapped, disappeared, likely tortured, and was MURDERED. And so will tens of other colleagues while you use this ridiculously soft language that only further emboldens Houthi impunity and barbarism. #Yemen

More people were kidnapped by the Houthis, not just UN staff. Hostage taking and forcible disappearance is their go-to strategy to terrorize, punish, use as leverage, extract concessions and false confessions, and silence dissent. My 2 cents to DW. #Yemen www.dw.com/en/yemen-inc...

Flights at Sana'a airport have resumed after Thursday's attacks. But just as I told BBC News, going after civilian infrastructure is collective punishment, will exacerbate humanitarian crisis, galvanize Houthis and bolster their local recruitment drive. #Yemen

The series of airstrikes in Sana'a and Hudaydah hit major electricity stations - knocking main grid offline - and ports. Casualties reported. Hitting infrastructure will never be popular. In fact, it's counterproductive, as it will bolster Houthi narrative and recruitment drive. #Yemen

The words of the great Yemeni poet Abdullah Al-Baradouni seem a fitting end to today’s events. He wrote ‘One Day’ in celebration of the 26 September 1962 overthrow of the Imamate that ruled Yemen for 44 yrs. (The Houthis now arrest those celebrating the date or posting about it on social media)

The question everyone is asking, and the Houthis are on high alert for: will Yemen be next? Circumstances are very different (read complicated) in Yemen. But the anti-Houthi side(s) will be greatly galvanised by what’s happened in Damascus this morning.
