Today, we sued to keep armed ICE officers out of polling places. We did this now to stop ICE’s voter suppression and intimidation tactics. We will ensure voters are not scared away in November. Outcomes are not inevitable.

Proud of this. Early voting starts in weeks. No voter should choose between a ballot and an armed federal agent at the door. We went to court so they never have to.

CVAP figures are modeled population estimates, not evidence that 24,000 people voted illegally. Noncitizen voting is rare (less than 0.05%) and prosecuted by states when unconverted. Trump lost the 2020 election by millions of votes!

This “announcement” by the Trump admin is desperate, old news, and misleading. The 2020 Census did not collect citizenship status, and the Census Bureau does not have a comprehensive individual “citizenship records” file to definitively match against voter rolls.

Transparency is not accountability, and my @commoncause.org colleague Preston Mitchum draws the line between them better than anyone I have read this year. People are not cynical because misconduct is hidden. They are cynical because it is tolerated. open.substack.com/pub/ourcommo...

Senators who voted to confirm Blanche are responsible for his past and future abuses. Blanche should and will be held accountable, and so should the senators who confirmed him.

3/ It also filters mail ballots through USPS before they go out. Nearly 1 in 3 of us voted by mail in 2024. A ballot that never arrives can’t be fixed on Election Day. That’s the whole argument.

2/ In one Texas county, at least 14% of voters flagged as noncitizens were citizens. In Utah, ~5,600 of 9,000 unconfirmed people turned out to be citizens. 27 did not. That’s the machinery this EO runs on.

1/ We filed in the Supreme Court today. The government wants to screen every voter against federal databases it has already conceded are incomplete, 60 days before the election. We asked the Court not to let that start while the case is still being decided.

The president’s primetime address was a smoke screen to distract us from new foreign wars, unsafe food, and high prices squeezing everyday families.

“Nominating a staunch, sycophantic loyalist as attorney general right before the midterms isn’t a coincidence. It is a nefarious and calculated decision. It’s no secret that undermining the DOJ’s integrity is part of President Trump’s broader playbook to subvert the midterm elections.”

I connect the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais with Georgia’s abandoned redistricting effort and argue that when the courthouse door narrows, the importance of organizing, coalition-building, and political accountability only grows. open.substack.com/pub/omarcomm...

I keep seeing people frame litigation and organizing as competing strategies. I think Georgia just showed why that’s wrong. The map that wasn’t drawn may be the real story.

🚨 BREAKING: We’ve successfully blocked the President’s personal slush fund, for now. We will keep the pressure on until it's shut down for good. The Trump administration cannot be trusted with the public's money and today's ruling is a massive win to protect taxpayer dollars.

Federal Court Blocks Trump-Vance Administration’s $1.776 Billion Slush Fund While the Case Continues

One lesson from this case: outcomes are not inevitable. After months of litigation, a federal court blocked the Trump-Vance administration’s attempt to move nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer funds through its so-called anti-weaponization fund. That’s an important win, but we’re continuing the fight.

The strongest point in Preston Mitchum’s latest essay isn’t really about the SPLC. It’s about what happens when oversight shifts from fact-finding to narrative-building. Democracy requires institutions willing to follow facts where they lead. Not institutions looking for villains.

California’s system is designed to count every eligible ballot accurately. The real danger is normalizing the idea that elections are only legitimate when certain politicians win. Democracy requires something simple: accountability.
100
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 10/06/2026
Quoted in The @us.theguardian.com today. California’s election isn’t the story. The story is that we’re watching a familiar pattern unfold again: claims of fraud without evidence, attacks on election administration, and efforts to undermine confidence in results before counting is complete.

The Attorney General takes an oath to the Constitution. Not to a political party. Not to a President. To the Constitution. That’s the standard Americans should expect from anyone nominated to lead the Department of Justice. www.commoncause.org/press/watchd...

Watchdog Group to Block Blanche’s Nomination to Attorney General Post

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
Every senator voting on Todd Blanche’s nomination should ask a simple question: Has he demonstrated a willingness to tell the President “no” when the law requires it? Because that is one of the most important responsibilities of an Attorney General.
100
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
An independent Justice Department is one of the guardrails that protects democracy. When that independence erodes, the risk is not simply bad policy. The risk is that law enforcement power becomes another tool of politics.
100
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
The question before the Senate is not whether Todd Blanche is loyal. It’s whether he has demonstrated the independence required to lead the nation’s most powerful law enforcement agency. The Attorney General’s client is the American people, not the President.
100
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
The Department of Justice is supposed to be independent. It is entirely appropriate for a President to set broad enforcement priorities. It is not appropriate for a President to use DOJ to reward allies, punish critics, or shield himself from accountability. That line matters.
100
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 08/06/2026
President Trump has officially nominated Todd Blanche to be Attorney General. The Attorney General’s job is to serve the public interest, not the President’s personal interests. That’s why Common Cause developed a public interest test for Attorney General nominees. Todd Blanche failed that test.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 05/06/2026
The Senate’s advice-and-consent role only works if the public has the facts. We’re making sure those facts are impossible to ignore. That’s what accountability looks like.

Our appeal argues the lower court got the law wrong by deferring to politicians defending their own power grab and by failing to grapple with expert evidence showing this map is an extreme partisan outlier. Voters should choose politicians. Politicians should not choose their voters.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Quick translation: congressional maps decide which communities vote together and can shape who holds political power. Florida’s new mid-decade map was openly tied to adding Republican seats. That’s exactly what the Fair Districts Amendments were designed to stop.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 30/05/2026
Filed late Friday night. @commoncause.org appealed Florida’s new congressional map because Florida voters already banned partisan gerrymandering in their state constitution. Politicians are not supposed to rig voting maps to keep themselves in power.

Rep. Ilhan Omar is a fighter and survivor. But no one should face violence or hate like this. Words matter. The President has directed bigotry at her for years. It fuels moments like this. Her constituents showed what America should look like: standing up for each other ♥️

Using deadly force to intimidate civilians and compel political compliance crosses a line. This isn’t inevitable. Accountability—from governors, courts, Congress, and the public—is the difference between democracy and authoritarian rule and literally life and death.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Let’s be honest about the tradeoffs. Health care is being cut while Congress pours unprecedented funding into federal law enforcement operating with impunity. Our tax dollars aren’t caring for parents or veterans. They’re funding lawlessness.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
At the same time, the Attorney General is demanding sensitive voter data in exchange for federal law-enforcement de-escalation. That isn’t governance. It’s coercion backed by guns.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 25/01/2026
Federal agents have killed civilians in broad daylight, including a mother of three and a VA ICU nurse. That’s not “law and order.” It’s lethal force used to intimidate a civilian population.

What’s happening in Minnesota follows a familiar authoritarian playbook we’re fighting at @commoncause.org: escalate federal force, create fear, then use that pressure to extract political concessions from a state government. This isn’t normal. And it shouldn’t be accepted as such. 🧵⬇️

Democracy doesn’t defend itself. At @commoncause.org we’re pushing Congress to act and reassert its constitutional role. People still have power.

None of this is inevitable. Presidential overreach is a choice. Congressional silence is a choice. Both can be challenged.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 04/01/2026
This is how people power erodes. Foreign conflict becomes domestic repression. Unchecked power abroad becomes unchecked power at home.
110
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 04/01/2026
There’s a bigger risk here. Escalating this conflict could be used as a pretext for an immigration crackdown by manufacturing “wartime” powers courts already rejected.
130
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 04/01/2026
Calling this “law enforcement” doesn’t fix the problem. The U.S. military is not a global police force. Criminal allegations don’t justify military action abroad.
110
Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 04/01/2026
The Constitution is clear. Only Congress can authorize actions that amount to war. Not a president acting alone. Not ever.

Omar Noureldin @omarcommoncause.bsky.social · 04/01/2026
Let’s be clear what this is and not about: This isn’t about democracy or safety. It’s about corporate interests, especially oil, coming before the American people.
