@priceoffootball.bsky.social 3Up from National League to EFL would have happened years ago except, as an ex-EFL boss told me, the NL board had no credibility and were not taken seriously. The ‘GateMoney’ scandal of 2021/22 showed the NL board still lack integrity and, as a result, any credibilty…

27 January, the first anniversary of the greatest football match I have ever watched, Ipswich v Maidstone, FA Cup 4th Rd. Privileged to watch it with family, friends and 5000 fellow supporters at Portman Rd. A day of pure joy. Simply unforgettable. @maidstoneunited.bsky.social 💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤💛🖤

A tiny 2% wealth tax, on 20k people would raise £24 billion per year to spend on the things that urgently need fixing in our country. We need some tax justice - the more money you have the less tax you pay and vice versa - that’s absurd.

Well that was a cold miserable night in Oyonnax, tough watching Brive lose again after an injury to a key player after 10 seconds and a very harsh early sending-off…. Hope my trip to @maidstoneunited.bsky.social v Worthing on Saturday is more fruitful…

Great to see George Elokobi developing into a top manager for @maidstoneunited.bsky.social . What a run we are now on following on from last season’s FA Cup heroics! So much hard work needed to get us to this position, as we also look to strengthen the squad to up our challenge for the title 💛🖤

Desperate times for the UK economy. Will it take bankruptcy before we admit that leaving our closest trading partners was a colossal mistake costing us 4% of annual GDP and needs to be reversed sooner rather than later? After 8 years all Brexit has given us is a huge headache…

Shame no video highlights of Tonbridge v @maidstoneunited.bsky.social Boxing Day match, especially given a spectacular Aaron Blair goal…would not be the case if, as with most clubs, we could have been given space to film too…

But he us trying to find a democratic centrist from the left! He just refuses to bow down to the loonies from LFI who would reverse most of his policies and smash up the country

Was always likely to happen with the extreme parties’ holding the majority, despite Barnier being one of the most decent, honest, competent politicians you could find to run the country…

A few years ago I was proud of our South Stand development at Brive but the new North Stand and its facilities is way above, genuinely international class, brilliant design and decoration, great for the fans 👏👏👏@CABCLRUGBY .

So disappointing. Every chance Starmer gets to make a real difference he flunks. Arms to Israel, closer ties to Europe, breaking the grip of media oligarchs, etc….if Labour carries on like this it will be smashed by Reform/Tories next election

Thanks Dave, the Twitter world has become very toxic, people want instant pleasure and believe they are entitled to it. Reality says that for every winner of a football match there is a loser. I now wish to concentrate on friendly voices and ignore others…

Thanks Paul, frankly the memory of talking to happy fans in July 2012 is what keeps me going! Until we find the right people to take over the club and recognise its value and importance we will do our best and try to make as few mistakes as possible while being prudently ambitious!

3. Aiming to become a well-run, asset-rich, debt-free business in order to attract durable, new investment and sponsorship. ‘Ambitious’ is a misused and abused word in football, much like ‘sustainable’ is. Beware of football club recklessness disguised as ambition… 7/7 End

2. Endeavouring to operate the business as efficiently as possible so as to maximise revenues and minimise overheads, resulting in the highest possible playing budgets, allowing optimal player recruitment (aside from errors…) while also looking after the social/community side of the club… 6/7

Oliver Ash @oliverash1.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
Instead ‘ambition’ is 1. Trying to achieve the highest possible playing status/level while preserving the club and its assets - the greatest of which is the stadium - in good financial health for the community and future generations of supporters… 5/7

Oliver Ash @oliverash1.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
It’s not for lack of ambition that your club doesn’t always outperform clubs with lower attendances. Different clubs have different revenue sources, eg owner subsidy (risky), substantial academy income (enjoy it while it lasts), special media revenue (available to those with movie star owners)… 4/7

…to the Isthmian League. The club was days from another bankruptcy when rescued, with no stadium and £350k of debt. It wouldn’t be ‘ambition’ to swap 3G for a grass pitch with a view to a future promotion to League 2, thus instantly destroying both community club and revenue streams… 3/7

- Maidstone in 1989-1992. Achieved promotion to League 2, some on field success but three years later club was bankrupt with no stadium. Fans were left with no club. - Maidstone in 2010. Having reformed after 1992’s failure the club owner ultimately over-borrowed in order to get over-promoted….2/7

Oliver Ash @oliverash1.bsky.social · 19/11/2024
A thread on why people often misuse the word ‘ambition’ in the context of running a football club…. It’s not ‘ambition’ to spend unearned or borrowed money on players just to get a promotion which cannot be sustained 1/7

In addition to this Starmer has to change course and steer back towards the single market, it makes obvious economic sense and otherwise Labour will be obliterated next time round by Tory/Reform, just like Biden/Harris were crushed by the new Trumpolitics

Oliver Ash @oliverash1.bsky.social · 18/11/2024
No, it began years ago. The ‘mainstream’ is now X and Instagram and Facebook and so on…this is what got Trump elected

In fact I don’t know why I keep referring to football as a business, it’s not, it’s a madhouse.

Oliver Ash @oliverash1.bsky.social · 18/11/2024
@maidstoneunited would like to have kept talented Jon Benton but that would have meant throwing a grenade at our wage structure and putting the club at risk which we won’t do. Grenades are not good for business….

Excellent and chilling analysis of the Trump win. The ‘mainstream media’ is no (longer) such thing…
