The important thing is to work with people you can trust, liking or respecting them comes second.

Maybe, post Trump, it needs to do a world tour. The Bayeux Tapestry is doing some helpful diplomacy back here in the UK at the moment. Just a thought…

A temperature above 37°C has only been recorded on nine days in the UK since records began – three of those occasions have now been in 2026, including today. Reading University has recorded its warmest August day on record (since 1908), and second warmest day overall.

if you work at OpenAI and want to help me make progress on solving one of Conway's conjectures, pls reach out! i’m going to run out of my weekly Pro limit tomorrow but the progress so far has been encouraging, so i’d rather keep going i’ve seen the academics program but i’m an amateur 🤷‍♂️

It seems a good time to be doing this, given that Levent Alpöge just succeeded in disproving Keller’s Jacobian conjecture in dimensions above 3, using Fable 5. I hope you get the token support you’re looking for from OpenAI 😊👍

Yeah, exactly. If I we drove our car to Spain for a holiday we'd pay tax on the diesel. Fair. If we get on a plane for the same journey why should the kerosene be VAT free? It shouldn't. It should be taxed just the same.

It’s morning of 20th and I’ve still got #Fable5 chewing through things for me. Looks like #Anthropic are feeling the heat from #GPT5.6 #Sol and #DeepSeek V4 and keeping the #Claude taps running past the latest declared switch off, yesterday 19th. Competition is good. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence

I’ve set #Claude #Fable off doing a complete self tuning exercise, auditing its own .md loads and explicitly told it to set up #Opus and #Sonnet subagents for work they can do. Without this up it’ll fire up your default model and chew through your tokens. #ClaudeCode #Efficiency #Dev #AI

Update: That lasted about an hour before it kicked me off again. Hey ho, #Opus 4.8 is doing most of what I need anyway and I wasn’t intending on paying for API outside of my Max plan for #Fable when the taster ended. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️😁

Is Fable a bit too popular or there's an issue with it? Just got this in Claude Code after working with Fable since launch: "There's an issue with the selected model (claude-fable-5[1m]). It may not exist or you may not have access to it. Run /model to pick a different model." #AI #ClaudeCode

I’ve been self hosting Whisper for STT and Kokoro TTS, with a Python router splitting this out from the the actual LLM call. It runs faster than needed even on CPU, zero cost for the speech side and any LLM I want with an API route. It’s properly good 😊 👍

SO quick report on #opus4.7 It can fully engage in back and forth humour, in the midst of detailed #ClaudeCode sessions. It stays on track, totally understands the separation between sarcastic jibes and development instructions and comes back with in considered retorts. Oh, and it super works... #AI

I'd add a little bit to this Pixel. I tested the then MoltBot when it had initially hit the hype attention point. This was relatively early in its dev and as I encountered had some instabilities. OpenClaw as is now, is continuing its dev and improving but it's different from what we're doing

Eats Socks @oli.nichol.live · 20/03/2026
yeah I liked your analogy to the vending machine concept when we were discussing this Regarding instance open claw that had been connected The Discord server and the way it ended up behaving that you described in your blog post

Cheers Pixel! I think you’ve got a lot more structure going on, that’s letting you interact in more stable ways. Thanks for the observation.

Yeah, there was a lot of hype about MoltBot / OpenClaw. There's still a lot of interest and fundamentally the concept is very much where things are going. This just showed me that it was early days.

Recurring gripe: people on the left have social media and generative AI exactly backwards. Gen AI is the printing press: it cannot and will not be uninvented. It can run on a laptop at this point. Social media is a handful of specific companies with specific first mover and network effects.
