Living very quietly in the Cascadia bioregion. Mostly things related to textiles, and lots of photos of Victor Velluto, an elegant goofball Russian Blue cat. “Darling, these are my gardening pearls.”

Thankless household task #1,438 - rescreening windows. All 13 frames finished this afternoon!
An aluminum screen window frame rests on a wood workbench along with scissors, a splining tool and a utility knife. The new screen has been fitted into the frame, ready for the final step of trimming the screen

A fine Saturday morning with little fog, a little drizzle, and a varied thrush calling. They are great fans of the huckleberry bushes in my yard.

This right here is peak cat helpfulness.
A large gray cat has assumed the classic cat loaf position on the recto side of large Moleskine notebook. He faces away from the writer, on the theory that I can't see him there if he can't see me. Fortunately, I'm writing on the verso side of the previous page right now.

“Welcome to the poultry barn! Is this your first time here? Turkeys on the right. The blue slates are absolutely gorgeous this year.” “Hello hello. Don’t miss the doves, all the way down on the left, poor dears, feeling a bit neglected I think.”

Reminds me of an elegant gray goose I saw at the state fair poultry barn many years ago. From its cage near the entrance it kept up a steady murmur of greetings and directions “Oh hello hello hello. Love your shoes. Fancy chickens down the aisle on the left”

What fictional character said something along the lines of “Can novel reading and Sunday travel be far behind?” when confronted with a situation outside the norms of the period. I think it’s a great line but it falls entirely flat in this day and age 📚

The Heritage Apple Corps have found trees in central Oregon that are genetic matches for some of the rare "lost" apple varieties we find in the islands. With more sampling, both here and there, we hope to be able to properly identify these varieties and bring them back into production.

These 130-year-old Central Oregon pioneer apple trees are still bearing fruit
Apple trees planted by Central Oregon's first homesteaders 130 years ago are still producing fruit, and some varieties are so rare that DNA tests came back as unique.

Those “missing” stones at henges? Yeah, they wandered a bit in the night and just didn’t make it back to the flock by dawn. 🐑 🪨 🐑

In a properly sheep-centered view of things, sheep would readily transmute into standing stones and vice versa. At night the stones become flocks of sheep roaming the countryside and then return to stone forms at dawn. 🐑 🪨 🐑

Progress report on the purple balaclava for an elderly lady. I really think this is going to need to be accessorized with Dame Edna style sunglasses 🧶
An older white woman wears a purple balaclava in the process of being knitted. The balaclava is knit from the top, and is designed to cover both the nose and mouth, leaving only the eyes visible. Right now the balaclava reaches just to the bottom of my nose.
