Probably better than I expected- if you look at him as a LG, and not a tackle. Can't be the only option at LG though.

And suddenly, the Wilkins contract is a bargain.

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Yea, I'm good with Chris Grier letting this 1st wave of FA OL pass.

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Not disappointed that Miami wasn't in on Jimmy G - but this should give you an idea of what a quality vet backup QB is going to cost in FA.

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Had Evan Brown barely in my top 10 guards for the Dolphins. Whatever his contract comes in for should probably be looked at the floor for guards that would be of interest as starters in Miami.

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 10/03/2025

Dalman is a great fit as a C in an OZ heavy scheme. Good long-term investment here for Ben Johnson who has done a good job of revamping the interior OL for the Bears.

Chiefs giving Jaylon Moore big money at left tackle only confirms my belief they drive up the price for Ronnie Stanley who chose to stay home

We talked about Dre Greenlaw on Scouting the Fins 3 weeks ago noting the Dolphins interest in him is real But it seems the injury concerns don’t really sway Miami at all. Is it a cause for concern? 🎙️: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/3...

The Kimes segment imploring Miami to take a guard at 13 is misguided in so many ways. First off, that would be the highest any coach ever who ran this system took a G, but like 30 draft slots. Second, the best OG is like 25th overall at best. Third, young guards are not what Miami needs.

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 27/01/2025

C'mon Travis. 4th and 5, game on the line. Never a better option than to throw it 5-10 yards behind the LOS to a complimentary skill player & no time to see if he actually has an angle to win the corner before throwing it.

And I dont have the numbers in front of me. But while SF was ravaged by injuries this year - they had many more linemen playing 75%+ snaps since Shanahan than Miami has with McDaniel

000

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 18/01/2025

I'd have to look more into SF, but I'm less inclined to blame the scheme on injuries than the personnel. Guys like Armstead, Jackson, and Wynn all had injury issues before they got into this scheme

110

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 13/01/2025

I'm not sure you have the resources to match up with the holes on the roster & be able to draft 2 high PLUS even a mid level FA for the OL considering the 3 most important parts of it are likely pretty set.

The benefit is that with the defense bumping it can create assignment errors and leave a lane open for a chunk gain. But our guys, whether it's coaching or ability, instead are the ones who are unable to adjust to the defense bumping so we have free runners blowing up plays.

030

Eric Smith @olcoachsmith63.bsky.social · 06/01/2025

There are absolutely benefits to doing it. But when it is consistently more destructive to your run scheme than productive, you have to adjust.

I thought Big Pat had the same issues at RT in terms of over-setting and getting beat across his face, but I also saw a lot more of the sweet feet with an easy weight transfer, and some flat out dominant run down reps. We got us one in this guy

The emphasis this system has on tackle play and the unique skill set to play it means you HAVE to have a capable swing tackle. Hell, they had five this year prior to injuries. I think Kion Smith can be that guy. But you still probably need one more vet (Paul, Jackson, Smith+vet).

I know we don't want to talk special teams - but Cam Goode was a nice addition to the STs in his return. These may seem insignificant- but if you get a couple guys to play like this - it's what generates the splash returns as coverage guys are no longer getting to their lanes.

The Dolphins had 18 first down runs yesterday a for 130 yards. I don't think defenses have much of a chance against this offense when it's doing that on early-down runs.

1st drive for Bengals vs Browns. Pin & Pull and then later Crack-Toss, both for chunk gains. These are both concepts that Miami has run (with minimal success) earlier in the year - but might be worth revisiting for next week based on how the Browns played them here.

Outside Zone right. Jaguars walk the safety up to adjust run fits. Frontside run D is solid- But boot action from Stroud puts the edge defender in conflict. He takes 1 step towards the boot and that's all thats needed to get Mixon into the secondary for a 30 yd gain.
