Good news for aussie people, which will get ignored by most because it doesn't fit their narrative of 'australia is getting worse every day'.

Just when I thought we were done with flash flooding, along came a spectacular thunderstorm yesterday and dropped another deluge ... INTENSE rainfall ⛈️ totally overwhelmed the gutters and flooded half the back verandah 😂 exciting while it lasted, luckily not for long

Yet another glorious day aside from thunderstorms and the rain. Three dogs waking me up with zoomies on the bed instead of the usual two 😂 perhaps a bit earlier than I would have liked after yesterday's roadtrip and the usual late night of reading news of the outside world 😱😵‍💫

Fine day for a road trip down through crop land - not so much canola this year but a lot of wheat & barley. Some lupins and quite a few fields left unsown. A good 5 hour drive, aside from the frustrating tourists in their slow moving caravans, and those who are too scared to travel over 100km/h.

Strangely warm feeling for the end of September, but that warm air on bare skin is the most glorious feeling after winter. The land is drying out so fast I almost see the colours changing. Its so easy to shift gears into the familiarity of summer way of life, days shaped by the weather

Heading into summer, weeks earlier than we did last year. 32c on 20 September!! Last year the first warm day was closer to mid-October First day of the north winds bringing heat & flies down from the interior. Stepping outside just after sunrise into that warm air was a glorious moment

Its not funny, its sad. Emus are wild animals, not some exotic pet on a hobby farm far from where they belong - roaming freely as part of an ecosystem on the land (and climate!) where they evolved and adapted. They're cold and confused ... and people think its funny watching them longing to be free

Never have I been so glad to be so far away from conventional life and the modern world as I am today. 26 years ago I gave up on materialism, greed, the shallow consumerism of the aspirational lifestyle and the endless competition for status & wealth. Endless growth in a finite system is impossible

A black and white map showing the vast area of mostly ocean (but also the territory of Papua New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, and the many island chains east of Papua New Guinea and north of New Zealand) to be made nuclear-free under the Treaty of Rarotonga (excluding Australian islands in the Indian Ocean, which are covered by the treaty but not shown). Note that at its southern end, the zone meets the northern end of the Antarctic Treaty.

Could marine heatwaves in the cold Southern Ocean be making animals and birds migrate? It’s possible – but we need better monitoring to know.

APPLEBAUM: Putin could go for full mobilization, and my guess is that it would fail. It would be very unpopular. Russians would, for the first time, resist going into army, because it's death sentence. I also don't see a situation where Russia can win or turn the tide this year.

Middle of July is midwinter, cold nights and frosty mornings but here I am in this most extraordinary boom season out on the land! Watching insect pollinators on my wattle in the warm sunshine, look up and see a formation of straw-necked ibis flying overhead in the clear blue sky, what a joy
Vibrant yellow puffballs of oz wattle blossom ablaze in the sun! A magnet to pollinators, this one has many small native bees and other insects around it, including a few honeybees. The scent of wattle blossom is indescribable- it floats in the air and surrounds the tree in an invisible richly scented cloud on a still day. Also, the sounds of so many birds - no traffic no crowds of people (none to be seen) just the sounds of dozens of bird species, too many to name. Not all have sweet voices -- eg crows and the corella 😵‍💫
This picture cannot possibly convey the feeling of the moment -- light, warmth, life, a joy for all the senses

Once a giant Still living on
A very old river gum tree, growing only from a small remaining portion of what was once an enormous girth of tree trunk. The trunk was long ago eaten out by termites, burnt out by fire. Centuries of floods have exposed the tops of the enormous root system that is the actual heart of the tree. The entire tree can die off in drought - after flood they grow back from just the buried root mass.
This tree was here long before Captain Cook was even born. It looked over a very different land then ... so much has been lost

What an extraordinary year we're having out on the land after the floods in February & March!! Midwinter in July, but its also spring summer and autumn all at once ...
Quandong tree with ripening fruit from drought-breaking rain in March, and with early spring blossom (divine scent released at night) even though its winter season July when picture taken.
Spring & summer, in winterThis one has been flowering since late December!! Sturt's Desert Pea -- only in a boom season after years of drought would we see this beautiful plant in flower for SEVEN MONTHS!! WOW ❤️Eucalyptus trees are also coming into blossom.
