We present a typology of traps to avoid: 1. Believing that AI systems are minds 2. Believing that AI systems are theories 3. Believing that cognitive science can be automated. Learn to recognise and avoid these traps. Failure to avoid leads to numerous problems.
Table 1: Typology of traps, what goes wrong if not avoided, and how the traps can be avoided. Note that all traps in a sense constitute category errors (Ryle & Tanney, 2009) and the success-to-truth inference (Guest & Martin, 2023) is an important driver in most, if not all, of the traps.

after the nutgraf, the first 2,500 words of this is boilerplate about plagiarism and ethics that might as well have been from chatgpt. I'm not saying that it is, but if you're going to accuse someone of massive clear-cut plagiarism, you're obligated to start off with egregious specific examples
1: The Journalist, the Reader, and the Robot

Using LLM in journalism, whether for writing, research, and/or analysis, is not harmless. It fundamentally alters the connection between the author and the reader for the worse.

News readers rely on journalists to take complex information about the world and summarize it in a way that can be understood by non-specialists. Every part of a journalist’s job, from research, to talking with sources, to formatting the information, to fact checking, to writing in an accessible way, is in service of this goal.

Journalists using chatbots to research and write their work gets in the way of all this.

Aw cool, this link allows anybody to read "The Emergence of Critical AI Literacy," by @taniaduarte.bsky.social, @kconrad.bsky.social and (to a lesser extent) me! rdcu.be/vgqeTu9WA7oa
Abstract

This chapter argues the concept of critical Al literacy as a necessary corrective to prevailing industry-driven frameworks of Al literacy that emphasises tool use, efficiency, and job- readiness. While mainstream Al literacy often treats artificial intelligence as a set of neutral technologies to be mastered, critical Al literacy situates Al as a sociotechnical assemblage shaped by political, economic, environmental, and cultural forces. It highlights the need to interrogate the assumptions embedded in the very term "artificial intelligence", to resist technodeterminism [1] narratives, to situate AI within larger sociocultural discourses, and to prepare all stakeholders to recognise when refusal or resistance to Al is both valid and necessary. Drawing on media, data, digital, and civic literacy frameworks, the chapter outlines the core principles of critical Al literacy: understanding the limitations of AI systems, awareness of epistemic injustice, recognition of human agency, attention to power asymmetries in Al development, acknowledgement
of AI as a complex assemblage, and awareness of critical Al literacy as an active practice. The chapter further examines the need for critical Al literacy across educational institutions, industry, civil society, and policymaking. By re-centring human values and challenging technodeterminism, critical Al literacy enables communities to interrogate,
resist, and reshape the role of Al in society.
