Whose idea was this plan? And:
Why was this plan made public? If this was indeed a legit security decision from a credible threat, why on earth would they let people know their tactics? Or was this all just a PR stunt?

COLUMBUS — During a special hearing on Flock cameras, Abortion Forward offered testimony about the dangers of automated license plate readers (ALPRs) for reproductive healthcare privacy, and to urge council to end all contracts with Flock safety and take down all cameras.

Abortion Forward Deputy Director Jaime Miracle: “Columbus has taken a lead in protecting abortion access by funding assistance programs and putting privacy protections in place for patients and providers. In 2022, Columbus City Council passed a resolution stating that that City funds will not be used to conduct surveillance on an individual or an organization for the purpose of determining whether an abortion has occurred. The contract with Flock and the use of automated license plate readers violate these commitments made by city leaders.”

The Flock Transparency Portal shows that the Columbus Police Department shared data with multiple states where prosecutors initiated criminal cases against individuals related to their pregnancy, pregnancy loss, or birth. Regulation cannot fix this problem. End the contract with Flock Safety and permanently remove all ALPRs. Ensure the privacy of patients and providers of abortion.”

Resolution 0143X-2022, passed on 7/25/2022, stated that “It is the policy of the City … that city funds will not be used to … provide information to any other governmental body or agency about any abortion … or other reproductive healthcare act” or to “conduct surveillance or collect information related to an individual or an organization for the purpose of determining whether an abortion has occurred.”

Intro added to my statement before the redistricting commission:

Ohio Constitution
Article XIX, Section 1 (D)

“Not later than the last day of September of the year after the year in which a plan expires under division (C)(3)(e) of this section, the general assembly shall pass a congressional district plan in the form of a bill by the affirmative vote of three-fifths of the members of each house of the general assembly, including the affirmative vote of at least one-half of the members of each of the two largest political parties represented in that house. A congressional district plan that is passed under this division and becomes law shall remain effective until the next year ending in the numeral one, except as provided in Section 3 of this article.”

The Republican-led ballot board did write the ballot language in 2024, just like they did in 2023. Secretary LaRose abused that privilege both times.

Gerrymandering also impacts statewide races.

There’s been so many people in this hearing reading dictionary definitions of gerrymandering, but nowhere near enough discussing the fact that you all are making government worse.

It’s gerrymandering when you produce bad policies that hurt people.

It’s gerrymandering when you lock in elections before voters get to vote.

It’s gerrymandering when those elected officials don’t listen to voters because they weren’t picked by voters.
