Art is not an oracle. It is a call to organize around ideas, & to take action. Disruptive art ignores decorum, but the audience defers to it & wonders why they feel choked & voiceless as ICE swoops into their neighborhoods, as the AfD grows toward majority, as police execute citizens in the street.

From the highest levels of government, there is no model of lawfulness. The law protects power, not people. I see so many say, "We need Rage Against the Machine in 2026." To do what? You didn't hear it in '92. "The structure is set. You'll never change it with a ballot pull."

Political art is rarely prophetic. It is simply observant, & pushing the people to be the same. But people are not observant. They are not self-directively intelligent. They are unpracticed in community & coalition. They are cowed by consequences & squeamish about sacrifice. They seek saviors.

It's annoying when people point to political art - Green Day, Rage Against the Machine, George Orwell, etc. - & say, "X years ago, they predicted all of this!" They predicted nothing. The actual lesson is that the past was never any better than the present. None of this is unprecedented or new.

Yes, that is VERY normal. Before acceptance, & before starting transition, the gap between your knowledge & your experience is usually fairly narrow. But once you really know what you want, & you work toward getting it, the experience of getting there seems further away, & often more dysphoric.

so fraught with problems of bureaucracy, understaffing, & lack of resources that they have no capacity left but for the most expedient & efficient clinicism. Either way, it is a shit experience, particularly for someone who has no choice but to be a patient, all the time, no matter where I live.

I can fly through the US medical system because I have been deeply in it for decades as a chronically ill person. But in Germany? This is all so new for me. The language is new for me. Having effective treatment is new for me. They can see this in my record, in my anxious demeanor.

Because I can see that they are nervous, that this is new for them, that they are trying their best, that they will never get good without practice, & because I can imagine myself in their place: overwhelmed, eager to do well, anxious that they won't, & at the beginning stages of the experience.

They would take a long time to find a vein, or they might miss several times & have to repuncture. More than once they painfully blew up one of my veins & had to start over at a new site. Did I get frustrated or berate them or demand someone who knows what they are doing? No. Fuck no.

When I was getting infusion treatments every six weeks in the US, sometimes they would be training new phlebotomists, & I would get my IV started by someone with little to no experience. I & the other more experienced techs have been through this hundreds of times. But the new phlebotomists had not.

I get it. Everyone has to get one to see a specialist. But I will never not need treatment until the day I die. To put that barrier in front of my ability to access treatment is just another unkind, enforced reminder that the world is made for healthy, able-bodied people. It is an unecessary hurdle.

People are afraid when their bodies do not work as expected. In my case, I have no future to look forward to when I will not be sick. It feels especially cruel that I have to get a new Überweisung - more or less permission/recommendation for treatment - every quarter for an incurable disease.

I also understand that both the doctors & the system are overwhelmed. In no way do I concede, however, that the complicated bureaucratic inefficiencies of a bottlenecked system, nor the recurring frustrations of that system should ever be made the patient's problem. Un-health is terrifying.
