1. The audiobook is exceptional, Hao narrates herself. 3. Draws together many thinkers & ideas in development of genAI tech, not just OpenAI 2. Don't want to deep dive through all the development & drama? This book is worth reading for the Epilogue and recommendations alone. #BookSky #Skybrarian
"Data is the last frontier of colonization .... AI is just a land grab all over again. Big Tech likes to collect your data more or less for free - to build whatever they want to, whatever their endgame is - and then turn it around and sell it back to you as service." Keoni Mahelona

Against an ocean background sits Shannon Chakraborty's Tapestry of Fate framing the quote from inside, "Fate means nothing to me, Amina. I want someone who rips apart the story laid out for them and writes their own. So go defeat her and become that person."

A sieged castle approaching starvation, nuns inviting miracles, combined with cannibalism & great cover art were the hooks that captured my attention. What really made this story sing though, was the braided narration shared by three female heroes: a knight of conflicted loyalties, an alchemist
book cover for Caitlin Starling's The Starving Saints
On a yellow background, a nuns habit stands holding a bee hive frame full of honeycomb and bees, the face appears to be three almost cartoonish faces competing for space, a glittering pink sun behind the head.

Easily the most optimistic book I’ve read all year, perhaps longer. In a time when the harbingers of doom appear everywhere, destruction seems inevitable and the entire deck stacked against most of us, David Graeber’s words spoke directly of hope and optimism. Not because of a specific criteria 🧵1/5
The bright yellow book cover of David Graeber’s The Ultimate Hidden Truth of the World… text in black serves as the background for his quote (also yellow and black) “The ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make, and could just as easily make differently.”

Early in the spring I adopted asparagus seedlings from a friend’s grandfather’s patch. I planted seeds around them. This picture is deceptive. 90% of my starts are 3 inches high 😂 Every time I see them they make me smile. #GardenSky knows sometimes the most import wins are surprising & small.

In honor of #NationalRescueDogDay two of the absolute best! ♥️
Our dog Max is a shepherd / catahoula leopard mix. (Mostly brown with black ) Fresh from a groomer bath he’s styling a blue bandana. We sometimes call him Dobby because he’s so earnest and loyal. Best good dog ever. He’s sitting on a grey tile floor looking right at you. Our dog Riley is a black and white beagle spaniel mix with short lab type fur. We call her princess (ironically) because she can be fussy and bossy and persistent especially when she wants attention. She is also a big baby. At the dog park she hides behind Max so he can protect her until
She feels safe. She is also bath fresh sporting a yellow bandana. She is lying on a blue and white railroad strip dog bed looking at you with an annoyed expression. I think she’d rather be asleep. Lol.

Izumi Suzuki's Terminal Boredom This collection floored me. Originally published in Japan during the 1980's & available in English in 2021. I was struck by how relevant it feels now: gender roles, cultural decline, tech & boredom. Smart, prescient, and compulsively readable.

I've found my way to this T Kingfisher title. While I appreciate all of her writing, my favorites are these fantasy quests.
