An addendum before I start sharing this.

I think what drives me up the wall the most is that *I* personally do not believe that "problematic" media should be banned or erased or its consumers punished, because I don't actually believe that "problematic" media causes real world harm. But there are people who clearly do, who will then make exceptions for themselves and the "problematic" media *they* happen to like, under the extraordinarily nonsensical excuse that at least they know it's bad.

They think they have found a loophole that enables them to perpetuate the death and suffering they claim to be against while condemning everyone else for doing the same thing. That they think they get to have their cake and eat it too.

That's not how it works. If you have moral convictions, you have to live up to them. Something is either problematic or okay to like, but the logic of your stated moral convictions clearly dictates that it can't be both. So either live up to that standard or leave the rest of us alone.

I can't let this go. Gonna be showing this around to some people and see if that puts some sense into them.

Full disclosure, I've never seen an Anita Sarkeesian video. I was never interested in them. They didn't bother me.

But it does bother me how people *love* to remind the rest of us that she always said “It's both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects” in all of her videos, except her videos were about how said problematic or pernicious aspects were causing real harm to innocent women in the real world, and what had to be done to put a stop to it for good.

If something is causing harm to real people in the real world, then it is not okay for it to exist, and if it is not okay for it to exist, then it is not okay to enjoy it. Exposing and denouncing the harm it is causing should be the first step to getting it removed, not an excuse to allow it to continue to go on unpunished. Continuing to enjoy something that is harming people is not only a bad reflection on your moral character, but it goes against pretty much everything that social justice is supposed to stand for.

"It's okay to like problematic things as long as you acknowledge they're problematic" is not the get-out-of-jail-free card you think it is.
