Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 23/05/2026Open scientific dialogue is exactly how we strive to move forward, so this is a great opportunity to discuss nuances, from semantic modelling to cohort differences. I learned a lot from Cisler et al.'s analytical approaches and am excited to try them on new data when the time comes. 101
Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 23/05/2026The authors highlighted potential contradictions between their findings and our 2023 work. To us, however, it was quite apparent that these two studies are not at odds. Instead, we believe they reflect complementary levels of analysis that together give us a deeper understanding of traumatic memory. 101
Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 23/05/2026I am excited to share our new response letter, just published in Neuropsychopharmacology. We wrote this piece to engage with a recent, highly sophisticated paper by Cisler et al., adding another vital piece to the puzzle of how the hippocampus encodes autobiographical trauma memories in PTSD. 132
Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 15/04/2026We are recruiting! My lab at the University of Haifa is looking for new team members to join our research on the links between sensory perception (focus on #smell and human #olfaction) and human memory. Please help me spread the word #newPI #academia #neurostuff 0169

In olfaction, a key challenge is identifying odors regardless of concentration. Our new paper in @natneuro.nature.com shows how the olfactory bulb performs this crucial computation before signals even reach the cortex. 1258

Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 11/02/2026Incredible work by a super talented team! Was lucky to witness it from conceptualization to reality (even when pieces didn't always fall into place, that's real science FYI). Congratulations and kudos @baror-shira.bsky.social , @ayab.bsky.social and team! 060
Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 02/01/2026#Throwback! Two years later, this finding still blows my mind. 🤯 We demonstrated that beliefs about nicotine strength drive dose-dependent signals in the brain, physiologically mimicking the drug itself, even when the actual dose is constant. Beliefs change biology 👇 www.nature.com/articles/s44...nature.comNicotine-related beliefs induce dose-dependent responses in the human brain - Nature Mental HealthInstructions about nicotine strength influence smokers’ perception of the nicotine content in electronic cigarettes and are associated with neural responses in the thalamocortical system. 010

Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 19/03/2025The craziest/loveliest part of departing from @ayab.bsky.social 's lab was this jaw dropping clip they made with KlingAI and a *single* photo of me. I guess this is what you get when you mess with masters of naturalistic stimuli 😱 Such a great gift and now the rest of the world can easily extort me 091
Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 12/03/2025Yesterday was my last day with the @ayab.bsky.social memory lab at ELSC, @hebrewuniversity.bsky.social. After two and a half wonderful years, going away is bittersweet. I now look forward to starting a new path as a PI @ Haifa University and to forming new hippocampal-mediated memories. Thank you💛 190

Ofer Perl @oferperl.bsky.social · 19/12/2024Some of the questions that drive us: *How do idiosyncratic cognitive maps form, with human #olfaction as unique test-case? *Role of multi-sensory integration in transforming naturalistic experiences into memory? *Personalized paradigms for studying autobiographical memory disorders e.g. #PTSD 130
