Right now, lawmakers want to roll back two California Clean Air Act waivers that protect our ocean and port communities around the country from toxic shipping fumes. We’re calling on the Senate to say NO to these rollbacks. takeaction.oceanconservancy.org/page/200276/...

This #WorldMaritimeDay, you can help advocate for safer, cleaner shipping. 🚢 The truth is, no matter where we live across the country, most of us rely on global shipping for everyday products. And while shipping plays a large role in the U.S. economy, it also exacerbates climate change. ⚠️

An alarming new report released by the United Nations this week revealed that the global temperature rise will exceed 1.5°C, likely within the next few years. But every 10th of a degree of warming we can prevent through immediate action makes a difference for our health, ocean and planet.
Graphic with quote "A future full of fish to catch, clean air to breathe and thriving coastal communities is still possible for our children, but we must make real investments now. Our ocean is a major part of the solution. Investing in clean energy, such as offshore wind, reducing emissions from shipping, and exploring carbon removal are critical to making that vision a reality.”

Researchers even estimate that for a city with 1 million households, installing filters could capture up to 4 QUADRILLION microplastic fibers per year … that’s the equivalent of 47 MILLION T-SHIRTS' worth of microplastic fibers! 🤯

The scale of this problem is massive, but our response can be, too. Installing microplastic fiber filters on washing machines is a proven solution that can help address this source of microplastic pollution. Filters have been shown to reduce microplastic fiber emissions by up to 90%! 📉
