My statement on the ICE shooting in Marble Hill ⬇️

"Today in Marble Hill, ICE agents fired multiple shots at a man in his vehicle while his 5-year-old child was in the back seat.
ICE's already unwelcome presence in our city has been growing more escalatory and dangerous by the day. Today's shooting is a grave development that requires a swift and immediate response to protect the safety of all New Yorkers.
First, we must have a full and independent investigation of this incident.
"There must also be a full and immediate release of all body camera footage of the incident.
In addition, the Target Corporation must stop offering their Bronx properties as private staging sites for ICE, in compliance with requests from New York officials. Target opening up large, active retail parking lots for paramilitary activity is unacceptable and places the entire community at risk.
ICE is a rogue, lawless paramilitary and surveillance agency.
It does not belong in New York City and it should not exist in the United States of America. Abolish ICE.”

New York City has one of the highest rates of childhood asthma in the country. The BUSES Act would directly target New York's bus idling restrictions. If Republicans want this for their kids, that's their business. But I will not allow this to be done to mine.

1 in 8 young people personally know someone who has been the target of deepfake nudes. The DEFIANCE Act stands to give those survivors a chance to seek justice. Whether my name is on the bill or not, we must not allow sexual predators to run amok. We must pass DEFIANCE.

There is pervasive corruption across our healthcare and agricultural systems that defy party lines. I meet with MAHA activists because a lot of their concerns are bipartisan issues that major corporations paint as partisan. The fight isn't left and right, it's top and bottom.

Pharmaceutical companies, like AbbVie and AstraZeneca, abuse the U.S. patent system to monopolize the drug market and prevent patients from accessing affordable drugs. We must develop more stringent standards that reward real innovation and crack down on corporate profiteering.

My statement on the tenth anniversary of PROMESA ⬇️
"Ten years ago today, Congress passed the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act of 2016 (PROMESA) to address the island's $74 billion debt by establishing the unelected Financial Oversight and Management Board (FOMB), otherwise known as la Junta. Ever since, La Junta has functioned as the primary administrator of Puerto Rico's colonial state, facilitating the erosion of public infrastructure, healthcare, and schools to enrich Wall Street vulture funds and foreign investors on an unaudited debt.
"The current crises on the island cannot be separated from PROMESA, FOMB, and the Board's mismanagement of Puerto Rico's budget. Right now, tens of thousands of Puerto Ricans do not have access to running water because of failing and underinvested infrastructure. Puerto Ricans suffer frequent blackouts and increasing energy costs while FOMB and the New Progressive Party cede public funding to corrupt energy contracts with NFEnergía, LUMA Energy, and Genera PR. Puerto Ricans are facing the widespread closure and privatization of K-12 public schools, increased university tuition costs, and diminishing accessibility of healthcare by leaving medical professionals with no other choice than to pursue opportunities off the island.
"There have been bad-faith attempts to co-opt the hurt caused by PROMESA and return FOMB's authorities back to the government of Puerto Rico while still saddling the island with debt. These attempts to codify illegitimate debt should be resisted.

My statement on President Trump’s combat operations in Iran⬇️
OCASIO-CORTEZ STATEMENT ON
TRUMP'S COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAN
"The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions. This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic.

"Just this week, Iran and the United States were negotiating key measures that could have staved off war. The President walked away from these discussions and chose war instead.President Trump flippantly acknowledged the possibility of American casualties, stating "that often happens in war.'

"Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression when diplomacy and security were within reach. Stop lying to the American people.

"Violence begets violence. We learned this lesson in Iraq. We learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And we are about to learn it again in Iran. Bombs have yet to create enduring democracies in the region and this will be no different.

"In moments of war, our Constitution is unambiguous: Congress authorizes war. The President does not. I will do my part to uphold our Constitution by voting YES on Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie's War Powers Resolution. Every member of Congress must join us in rejecting this aimless war.

We can't fall into right-wing populism’s lie that the most vulnerable in society are to blame for wealth inequality in our countries. We need to build movements that tell the truth: the story of wealth inequality is not a cultural one, but a class one.
