That's what I get for posting accolades at halftime
Washington has scored against Iowa to make the score 27-10. The Hawkeyes still have 77.2% odds to win.

Louisville rises to #60 following the win over a once-again-flailing Florida State
Louisville's post game objectively ranking update. The Cardinals are now 60th in Performance Against Strength of Schedule, 61st in PASS+ with a +1 uniform floor adjustment (helps better analyze winless teams), and are 32nd in scoring tempo margin. That last one is a good sign going forward, but this team still has only about a 0.1% chance of winning the ACC.

The ACC is once again chock full of middling teams that can seemingly do anything (good and bad, leaning bad) given the night

Iowa at Washington was my pick of the night after seeing that Vegas favored the Huskies for some reason. The box score odds had Iowa -4.5; they won sims 24-20 on average The Hawkeyes are already at 27 at the half.
The college football live odds for Iowa at Washington as seen on objectivelyfootball.com

Iowa leads Washington 27-3 at halftime and is now 82.7% likely to win the game.

Hard to believe Washington was a Vegas favorite in this one, however narrow.

Texas Tech and BYU are at 1.6% and 2.0%, so their lower tier feels right. Still, better than LSU at 1.4%, Florida 0.3%, SMU <0.1% or Mississippi <0.1%

I share your concerns about the creep/pressure of necessity when some schools do it. An adjacent positive: The transfer portal would need more stringent boundaries if summer games happen. Teams would need to solidify and practice together sooner.

The Objective Game of the Week goes to UCLA @ Oregon, separated by less than a point and just 6 yards We'll find out if the Bruins are for real if they can survive a media darling on the road?
#20 UCLA visits #29 Oregon

As seen on objectively football dot com, the Bruins have a 52.3% chance to win, with 415.4 yards for UCLA and 409.5 yards for the Ducks.

UCLA could really use this win to prove legitimacy, as their oSoS ranks just #80 - in the power conferences only Duke and Penn State have easier schedules.

Ranking strength of schedule by win totals isn't very revealing of a team's real value. Is a 10-2 UAB the same as a 10-2 Alabama? Basic SoS thinks so. oSoS projects much more accurately, using scoring on a per play basis against an average baseline.

Penn State is also #80 in oSoS (per play, objective SoS). That's also easiest in the power 4. UCLA has the next easiest road at #78, and some big hitters are also on easy roads.

Pitt ends the night at #3 in the objective performance against schedule rankings. (Likely plenty of teams will leapfrog as games go final tomorrow but enjoy the high Panthers fans!)
The top college football teams as seen on objectivelyfootball.com

Pitt moves up from 8th to 3rd after defeating formerly 20th-ranked Virginia Tech. Northwestern also enters the picture at 23rd.

These rankings are based on per play box score performance data and weighted against the average stat baselines of all 138 teams to determine schedule strength (Far more revealing than doing so simply by wins). No hand-picked weights are added and no opinion polls or preseason numbers ever touch the pool. A true live snapshot of who is doing the best against their schedule at any given moment—teams re-rank after every single game.

The objective simulator had Pitt win this 28-26. But yardage was about as far off as you can get. Virginia Tech with 499 yards of offense and losing, phew #cfb

At this point I think we need to judge ADs by how much money they can squeeze out of elite money mega-donors. The grassroots approach will never come close, and quite frankly is a lazy approach requiring less work from the department

Week 5 is around the time that PASS and sTem start really carrying serious value. This game is a good test of a close matchup, where UNT was favored by betting lines but ranked lower than Tulsa in both core metrics.
The scoreboard for North Texas at Tulsa on objectivelyfootball.com at the half, with Tulsa leading 17-10. The Golden Hurricane came into the game ranked #70 in performance against schedule and #55 in scoring tempo margin. The Mean Green were #94 and #79, respectively.
