1930s? Nah, I’m pretty sure this is a new photo with a filter. They live in central Vermont, I keep seeing them at events. /jk

I think I tried telling them George was my favorite Beatle, but that didn’t work.

They would have pegged me as some combo of weird/nerd/fantasy fan/hippie. So I’m assuming I got the quiet one and/or the rebel.

I was just a little too old for NKOTB (also, I wouldn’t have been into that kind of music anyway, and never did celebrity crushes), but I was a day camp counselor and the campers assigned me a favorite NK using the power of character archetypes since I didn’t have a favorite (or know their names).

Although that probably means my outfit was a fail at presenting as a standard slightly hippie middle class, middle aged Vermont mom. Good to know if I ever need to norm it up for something. I really should get a purse for times like that. The leather pocket belt is a real attention grabber.

I was just at my drs office and got clocked by the LPN as someone it was safe to tell they were the king of the state faerie court (unsure of exact term or spelling). They showed me a pic of their outfit and we talked about clothes and ren faire vendors. It was awesome!

I would say at least you know they are 18 because they’re voting, but I’m pretty sure that is already illegal vote coercion so who can say.

I can’t emphasize this enough — “AI” wasn’t born corrupt and toxic. For ~75 years, it was mathematicians and scientists doing interesting, thoughtful work and trying to solve problems, making only the usual human mistakes. What “AI” did to machine learning is as tragic as what it did to artists.

Some of it is things getting worse again. But clearly some of it is that things have always been like that in the part of the country where they are from. And they often add a few things I’ve never heard of. Like shaming young women for not shaving their arms.

010

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I’ve been spending more time on tumblr, which is full of young people, and it’s really shocking to me how often I see posts that are like, “we have got to stop [doing thing that they stopped doing before the poster was even born where I am from]”

As an overwhelmed disabled person I am just so, so annoyed that an essential comfy warm thing fell apart this badly WHILE I WAS LAYING DOWN ON THE COUCH. Just went to get up and my slipper had fallen apart.

000

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

When I repair it I am absolutely using a plain, simple overcast stitch. Yes because it is the only one I know. But more importantly because when it wears through it will lose a couple stitches in each direction but mostly stay put for a while until I can get to mending it.

000

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I never really learned hand sewing at all. So I don’t know what kind of stitch they used. It doesn’t unravel at all, even a little in one direction. But in the other it pops three more stitches if I so much as look at it. Like an edge version of the stitching at the top of bulk grain bags.

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

My slipper went from no noticeable missing (so realistically probably or two) stitches to this while I was laying on the couch not noticing anything was happening. Thinking back I remember my foot getting caught in a mystery string.

A sheepskin slipper with the seam attaching the sole approximately one third undone. It is being held up in front of a grey and white blanket.

Why do they keep making these things food scented!? I do not want my brain starting to conflate the smell of poop and treat food. Although I suppose that’s a great way to stop craving those particular treat foods. But yeah, not the experience I’m looking for.

I am so tired of Jonestown being a stock reference for “haha, you’re in a cult.” 918 people died, most against their will, and still it has become shorthand for how stupid you think someone is. It's the McDonald's hot coffee incident of mass death — universally referenced, entirely misremembered.

I understand that they are probably doing the good work of interrogating past actions of themselves and the other men in the organization. But the tone of their comments reads almost accusatory. It was a document full of vulnerability that was made for an active conversation at them time.

In college in joined an independent coed fraternity, it has a very active alumni group that I am involved with. A bunch of men over 40 just showed up in the comments of a 9 year old post in our fb group that was sharing our Me Too doc asking why the google doc wouldn’t open. I’m annoyed.

Rewatching DS9 really puts a magnifying lens on why the newer Trek shows just don’t grab me that much. Strange New Worlds would be way better if it had a million episodes per season and you could get entire episodes devoted to Carol Kane having a spa day.

Wait, if this is the song that npr did a story on about how it was breaking Mariah Carey’s record for weeks at number one but don’t worry since it’s almost Christmas music season so everything will go back to normal soon then I’ve heard a snippet of it at 1.3x speed. I was not impressed.

Yeah, but crypto was/is very easy to avoid actually using. It just made payment apps slightly more spammy. AI is everywhere and it impacts functionality. Search is horrible of course but it’s also messed up my prescriptions when my pharmacy changed its system to a much worse AI one.

And the faq for the event venue where I’m going tomorrow is trying to be all cute by being snarky. Some of it is straight up rude as result. All of it is pissing me off. Like under parking it adds, “Sorry, no helicopter pad” after the actual unhelpful answer. Just having a bad day.

I did mess with some stuff in settings to bring back opacity. But everything is still way too rounded and otherwise ugly. A lot of stuff feels smaller too. But maybe that’s just the roundness. And is everything bouncier? That isn’t as bad as the ugly.

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 27/09/2026

My day was also bad because I finally had to upgrade my phone to the iOS that has Liquid Glass (thanks for autocorrecting that to capitals, Apple, just real proud of it, huh?) because stuff like the alerts for my basement leak sensors stopped working. Now everything is ugly.

Having a bad day full of annoying interruptions and I forgot about my online word games (not NYT) and lost my streaks. I’m very grumpy. This is not fair. It didn’t even happen because I was busy having fun.

Dodgeball. I saw it at a drive-in in Williston, ND, but not in a car. I went on a bicycle. I was in the middle of a cross country bike trip. They didn’t give us any problems. We sat on the ground. I forgot how we listened to it. It was a lot of fun!

Having unfortunately increasingly socialized with people in elite circles in the last 8 years its a pattern you can't help but notice. A poor, struggling working class person becomes elite as soon as they dye their hair blue.A guy who owns five establishments is working class when he dons a MAGA hat

Vermont does have a very heavily used interlibrary loan program though.

010

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

That’s one thing that sucks about Vermont. We don’t have that, at least not generally. You need to join individual libraries aside from your town’s. It’s normally only around $20 a year, but I’m not a member of any others right now. It was weird to get used to when I moved back. I don’t like it.

Dawn F as in @obi-dawn.bsky.social · 23/09/2026
