Listening to this with my insurance nerd hat on, and I gotta say: everybody living on the US west coast should consider getting flood insurance, given the El Niño-related flooding that’s likely coming. Flooding isn’t covered by standard insurance policies but most folks don’t know that!

Hot take, I think things like lottery or two on one iff for reg is a good thing for events and conventions. Getting new people in through the door to experience it for the first time isn’t just fair, it helps inject that first time energy into a space.

From that moment I knew CFZ was thoroughly cooked. And I have to say the only bit of that con I miss are the friends that go to it/run it. Massive respect to the paws/claws/hoofs/tentacles etc on the ground making it the best con they can. I have no desire right now to go back.

A while ago a friend that was helping the convention couldn’t make it. So we offered a switch I would go in their stead and do the job they were originally going to do. All made perfect sense and was a win win for both. They said no, and if we tried to (help) we would be banned.

if you can tell there's smoke, you and *everyone* should be wearing an n95 or better outside, limiting physical activity outdoors, and hopefully you can run some sort of filter inside. a box fan and a furnace filter (merv-13 or better) stuck to it is a good start if that's what you can manage rn
