Tomorrow, Discord will place everyone into an age group using account signals. They claim 90% of users won't have to confirm their age. They are also introducing new verification methods if you do need to verify that you are an adult, including Credit Cards and App Stores.

Laws requiring age assurance are expanding around the world. Rather than waiting to be told how to do it, we’re launching our own privacy-preserving approach: one that reflects your feedback.

We've estimated your age group automatically from account signals like how long your account has existed or the kinds of servers you're a part of. We don’t look at your messages, calls, or other content. We're launching this over the course of this week, so it may take a few days to reach your account.
If you're in the adult age group (18+), nothing changes. If you're in the teen age group (13-17), you can keep messaging friends, joining voice calls, and participating in non-age-restricted servers, but with additional safety protections that block age-restricted content, spaces, and settings. We've added several new ways to confirm your age, including some that don't require an ID or selfie (including credit cards). (Yes, I feel guilty for breaking the boycott but again, I need to be able to function to take care of my child. I have tried countless other games over the years, it's only WoW that works to keep me out of the bed rot depression.)

So think about the fact that sometimes breaking a boycott means keeping someone around to keep fighting. I don't look down upon people who break a boycott because they needed something for their mental health for a short period of time. I hope everyone else can extend that same grace to others.

Would the ideal situation be to not give them money? Absolutely. But I also can't spend 3 months in bed when I have another human to take care of. I still boycott everything else that is needing to be boycott. But remember: You -have- to take care of yourself to keep fighting or else they win.

I have tried for 3 weeks to not give into the depression game routine. And guess what? I can't do it. I cannot spend three months absolutely depressed (to the point of being unable to get out of bed), because I have a child I have to take care of. (Cont)
