As part of Summer Streets, NYC PLAN will be tabling on Saturday, August 8th, with Library Freedom Project. We’ll be at the Harlem Rest Stop on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard between 110th Street and 113th Street - come say hi!
An overhead photo looks down on a sun filled park avenue in NYC, on a day where the streets are filled with people walking and biking instead of cars. Text is overlaid that reads “this is summer streets, 5 Saturdays / 5 Boroughs”.

Underneath the photo is a bright yellow banner with text that reads “stop by our info table located at Harlem rest stop (Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard between 110th Street and 113th). August 8th 7am-3pm”.

In the yellow banner there is also a logo for the Library Freedom Project and NYC PLAN, as well as a link to

NYC’s Adopted FY27 Budget Still Fails Our Public Libraries, and provides $91,132,000 less to libraries than Mayor Mamdani promised. NYC PLAN will continue pushing to see library budgets equal 0.5% of the total budget in the FY28 budget and beyond. Full response: nycplan.org/press-releas...
A tan square with a NYC Public library Action Network at the top is filled with a graph showing comparative funding for FY26, FY26 adjusted for inflation, FY27, and FY27 if Mayor Mamdani had kept his campaign promise to fund our library systems at 0.5% of the budget. The graph shows that FY27 funding is less than the funding provided for FY26 when accounting for inflation, and significantly less than the funding our libraries would have received if Mayor Mamdani had kept his promise.

@mayor.nyc.gov your Executive Budget released last month falls 97 million short of the 0.5% you promised during your campaign. @council.nyc.gov we’re counting on you to secure necessary funds for NYC’s public libraries and allocate at least 0.5% of the overall budget to our three library systems.

The quote reads “Under the current proposal, for every $100 of the budget, only $0.42 will go to libraries. In Eric Adam’s’ budget, libraries got $0.45 out of every $100. Mamdani, if you let him out swag you on this, you will never hear the end of it.”

The first way to get involved is through being an Ally, subscribing to our newsletter or getting connected with For the People for someone outside nyc. The next option is to be a Sponsor, and provide material resources to our group such as space, money, or printed materials. Then there’s a Network Supporter, for someone who is contributing to campaigns and events when they can. Then there’s a member - someone who comes to meetings, joins a working group, and gets involved with events.

Wednesdays are for libraries! We’re calling our city council members every Wednesday now through January to demand at least half a percent of the city budget be dedicated for the NYC library systems. Call with us! Here’s a script including how to find your city council member : bit.ly/3KM9Eq9
A illustrated graphic showing a stack of books, with the spine facing the viewer. The titles say “Wednesdays for libraries”, “call your city council member”, “advocate for library funding”, “we want .5% of the budget”, “now through January”, “every single Wednesday”, and “scripts available”. The background is a warm tan, the same color as PLAN NYC’s logo.
