Best of is kind of annoying for its fringe cases like this. Because as a whole I like it more than multiple games on this list (N+, Left 4 Dead) but yeagh. Dead space kinda wins cuz Im such a mark for scifi horror, but its probably neck and neck for my fav of 2008?

Patapon 2 is one of my favorite games, but when I was considering the games in this list there wasn't any individual category it felt like it beat everything else out on...? Its kind of conflicting. I played like, hundreds of hours of N+, and OFF had a soundtrack I listened to for like half a decade

This was more or less before I learned much about programming (I am still a complete novice frankly.) This was built off an engine made in Game Maker 8 Pro, and if I recall correctly my only "code contributions" were adding some sound effects. (Audio balancing be damned.) It was mostly a reskin.

Remembered this today. Super Ruina Kart, old Library of Ruina fan game me and a friend tried making at one point. Had some fun stuff in there but we never did wind up finishing it.

The obsession in modern game design with smoothing out the player experience and removing all possible friction is immensely frustrating. Some old games absolutely aged poorly, others had incredibly deliberate design thats possible to master. Its like the fucking tank controls debate.
