From despair to hope: An alternative to WA's broken youth prison experiment
At 16, Moses Mutel was drifting into crime. His time at Washington's toughest youth prison did little to turn things around. There is a better way.

The NCAA bans 6 college hoops players in latest sports betting scandal. Allegedly, players texted about a plot to "throw the game" (not exactly code words🕵️) + told teammates to not score. Athletes in betting plots risk not only NCAA bans but the feds could take a look. More on @sportico.bsky.social:

If you have a Little Free Library that’s ignored, it’s a good time to make it a Little Free Food Pantry. A few dollars each week can stock it, and community members often donate. I started mine in 2020 and now local churches even drop off items. I’m seeing a lot more people coming by for food.

This is Sausage. His humans got him his very own swimming pool and he's obsessed with it. We asked them if he swims every day and they said, ”Every single day. He follows us around the house until we take him outside AND sit and watch him. If we’re not there he won’t swim." 14/10 good for him

One of the most common and glaring mistakes I see in commentaries about NIL, the NCAA and sports law is the belief that the U.S. Supreme Court made NIL possible through the Alston case. It's wrong on multiple levels. My weekly @sportico.bsky.social sports law column: www.sportico.com/law/analysis...

There’s a Common Misperception About the Supreme Court and NIL
Fans, journalists & others have misstated the U.S. Supreme Court's role in NIL, a topic SCOTUS has not addressed and didn't address in NCAA v. Alston.

By a 5–4 vote, the Supreme Court holds that states may NOT immunize state officials from certain federal civil rights lawsuits alleging unlawful delays in an administrative process (like the provision of welfare benefits). Kavanaugh and Roberts join the liberals. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24p...
JUSTICE KAVANAUGH delivered the opinion of the Court.
Several unemployed workers in Alabama applied for
unemployment benefits from the State. In their view, the
Alabama Department of Labor has unlawfully delayed the
processing of their benefits claims. So the claimants sued
the Alabama Secretary of Labor in state court under 42
U. S. C. §1983, raising due process and federal statutory
arguments and seeking a court order requiring the
Department to process their claims more quickly. The
Alabama Supreme Court ruled that the claimants could not
sue under §1983 to challenge delays in the administrative
process until the claimants completed that process. But
that ruling created a catch-22: Because the claimants
cannot sue until they complete the administrative process,
they can never sue under §1983 to obtain an order
expediting the administrative process. This Court’s
precedents do not permit States to immunize state officials
from §1983 suits in that way. See Haywood v. Drown, 556
U. S. 729 (2009); Howlett v. Rose, 496 U. S. 356 (1990). On
that narrow ground, we reverse.
