Community members gathered Thursday near Isthmus Park to dedicate a welcoming figure carved by Squaxin Island artist Andrea Wilbur-Sigo. The figure honors the relationship between the city and tribe, and marks natural resource restoration work still to come.

On Saturday morning, Puyallup Tribe of Indians members honored the first salmon of the season. In the afternoon, they marked the grand opening of a new, 24,000-square-foot longhouse, which was immediately put to use with a longhouse naming ceremony and First Foods ceremony.
