This is a sad, and I believe true, indictment of the Silicon Valley #SocialMedia giants From Mark Little’s excellent new book: The Last Good Day on the Internet Well worth your time should you want to understand the toxic impact of technology on civil society #BookSky @marklittle.bsky.social
The lessons I learned at Twitter are not universal truths. But there is the same controlling impulse within every American mega-corporation that has come to dominate the open internet. They would rather watch their platforms burn with rage and anger than surrender control to the communities trapped inside their walled gardens.

I figured this YTD Thermo Fisher stock chart might add a little color to the sordid tale The circled area indicates when Trump bought the stock and it subsequent run. The stock is now lower than it was, when Trump did the pump. I’m curious if was followed by dump before it fizzled? #USPolitics
Yahoo Finance chart for Thermo Fisher Scientific (TMO) showing the stock price at close on May 21, 2026 of $449.21, down $0.16 (-0.04%). The chart covers approximately January through early June 2026. The stock peaked near $650 in late January before declining steeply through February and March to a trough around $465. A hand-drawn oval annotation highlights a recovery period from late March through early May, during which the stock rebounded to approximately $530 before pulling back again to the current $449 level. Volume bars are shown at the bottom of the chart, with elevated trading activity visible during the February decline and the April recovery. The current price of $449.21 is marked with a red dot at the far right of the chart.

I hate to see my name getting dragged into this mess #USPolitics #Cartoon
Standard (accessibility-focused):
A six-panel editorial cartoon by Jack Ohman (Tribune Content Agency, dated 3/6/2026) titled "Why Did We Attack Iran?" A caricature of Donald Trump offers a series of shifting justifications — Iran was going to attack us; regime change; Iran was developing a nuclear weapon — each undercut by his own admissions ("...or not," "...kinda," "...after I obliterated it"). In the lower panels, he claims Iran is run by "crazy lunatics" and that he pushed Israel, not the other way around. A second figure lists alternative explanations — deflecting from polls, Epstein, ICE, the economy, the Kennedy Center, the East Wing ballroom, Venezuela, Greenland, Canada, and his "grifting crime family." Trump responds: "WRONG! ...You know I do everything irrationally!"

Outside the homestead today in #NYC #Snowdat #Snow
A snow-covered residential street in New York City, looking north along East 85th Street after a heavy overnight snowfall. A single narrow lane has been cleared down the centre of the road, flanked on both sides by parked cars buried under thick snow. The footpaths are uncleared. Bare-branched trees line both sides of the street, their limbs heavily laden with snow and arching overhead to form a canopy. Red-brick apartment buildings and a dark stone church or institutional building are visible on either side. Traffic lights are visible in the far distance through the grey, overcast sky. The scene is quiet and almost entirely empty of people.

If the Federal minimum wage, last raised to $7.25 in 2009, is adjusted for #inflation it should now sit at somewhere in the $10.67 - $11.16 range That calc is based on cost of living adjustments from the Social Security administration or the Consumer Price Index.
$7.25 in 2009 would be worth approximately $11.18 at the end of 2025 using CPI inflation rates, representing a cumulative increase of about 54.2%.
Comparison:
• Social Security COLA adjustments: $10.67 (47.2% increase)
• CPI inflation: $11.18 (54.2% increase)

Maybe I should revise that to appointed and elected political representatives. Any citizen can declare they are running for President, however to get on the ballot you need to be approved by Oireachtas members or 4 county councils -see image below #IrishPolitics
Image showing requirements to be nominated as an Irish Presidential candidate

Who can run for President of Ireland?
To be eligible for election as President, you must be an Irish citizen who is 35 or older. You must be nominated either by:

At least 20 members of the Oireachtas
At least 4 local authorities
Former or retiring Presidents can nominate themselves

Hi Ingrid, I’m listening to ‘Democracy For Sale’ by @petergeoghegan.bsky.social Peter presents a lucid picture of how shadowy figures, untethered from ethical constraints, and flush with #DarkMoney, can capture a democracy I now need to buy the print version for a deeper read
Book cover of Democracy for Sale: Dark Money and Dirty Politics by Peter Geoghegan. The background is bright blue, with two rustic wooden signs hanging on chains. The top sign reads “PETER GEOGHEGAN” in red capital letters. Below it, a larger sign displays “DEMOCRACY FOR SALE” — “DEMOCRACY” in red on a white background and “FOR SALE” in white on a red background. At the top, there is a quote by Carole Cadwalladr: “Essential reading for anyone who wants to make sense of our politics.” Another quote below the author’s name by Fintan O’Toole reads: “As urgent as it is illuminating.” At the bottom, white text reads: “DARK MONEY AND DIRTY POLITICS.”

The cruelty and arbitrariness of these deportations are, of course, the point. We still, for now, can haul heartless types like #KristiNoem before committee in Congress to watch her stonewall. The question is whether that ability will continue and whether she will be held to account. #USPolitics
This image shows Cruella de Vil from Disney's "101 Dalmatians" in an animated style. She's depicted with her signature dramatic appearance - wild black and white hair, pale skin, and a menacing grin showing her teeth. She's wearing what appears to be a fur coat with a jagged, flame-like pattern at the bottom. Her distinctive green earrings are visible, and she has that characteristic villainous expression with narrowed eyes.
The background appears to be dark and atmospheric, with reddish lighting and what looks like an indoor setting, possibly suggesting a sinister or dramatic scene. The art style appears to be from one of Disney's animated adaptations, with bold colors and sharp, angular design elements that emphasize her role as the story's antagonist. The overall composition captures Cruella's iconic status as one of Disney's most recognizable villains.

Boxwood is flowering in #CentralPark #NYC #NewYork
This photo shows a group of dogwood flowers, likely from a Cornus kousa (Kousa dogwood) plant. The flowers are creamy white and arranged with four pointed petal-like bracts surrounding a central greenish cluster of true flowers. The surrounding foliage consists of lush, dark green, oval-shaped leaves with prominent veins. The flowers appear to be in full bloom, giving the scene a dense and elegant ground-cover look, typical of ornamental dogwood species in gardens or shaded woodland landscapes.

Education Levels:

27% have completed only secondary education.
13% have post-leaving certificate education.
56% have third-level education.
Regional Variations:

6% in the Border region have only primary or no formal education, compared to 1% in the South-West.

This is a brilliant bit on why the #FarRight has failed so far in #Ireland, a country with no glorious past imagined or otherwise I’d add that Ireland is one of the best educated in the West, a vaccine against emergent #fascism #IrishPolitics #Politics
Extract from article:

“Our situation is very different from that of most other western countries. We have famine, colonisation, civil war and mass emigration in our relatively recent history. Glorifying the past is at the heart of most right-wing populist projects, but nobody in this country yearns nostalgically for an earlier golden age”
