We are, in fact, back on our bullshit. We must’ve been here a hundred Fridays at least. Tommy’s Skyline to the Sea was back on tap, it’s done really well! Different from the usual Barebottle Brew Co beers.
Skyline to the Haze is a hazy IPA with 7% ABV, named after the iconic Skyline to the Sea trail. Surf Detective is also delicious.A flight of beers outside under a still and hazy sky at Barebottle Brew Co. in Santa Clara, California.

Sunrise was 7 a.m. over Black Mountain west of Cupertino this morning
High clouds are pink and orange, reflecting the sunset just over the horizon behind us. A pale purple band just over the horizon is the “Belt of Venus,” which is the shadow of the earth cast against the sky by the rising sun. The golden and olive hills are furred with a marine layer extending out over the Pacific Ocean.

Photo taken with an iPhone 3GS around 6:15 pm looking at the sun setting behind an angular building. A large stone pine is silhouetted against the pale sky.Same photo taken with iPhone 17 Pro. The composition isn’t 100% but the dynamic range sure is better.

Took me a minute to find my copy of Neuromancer. How many of these have you read?
The cracked, beaten spine of William Gibson’s first novel Nueromancer in the Ace Special paperback (2nd printing) peers from a row of other paperback fantasy and science fiction novels and short story collections, mostly Del Rey “The Best of” along with some Fritz Leiber, Stanislaw Lem, all kinds of stuff a kid would find in a Doubleday bookstore at the mall in 1986 or so.

Late to the party, but I really enjoyed Jane Harper’s 2016 mystery novel The Dry. What a debut! The story takes place in rural Victoria, Australia and she really conveys a different place and the people. Lovely writing, terrific descriptions […] [Original post on infosec.exchange]

“Well, where *I* live, we get money for nothing and our chicks for free,”
A private developer is proposing a high-speed airport rail system that will cost Chicago riders a lot of money. A kind stranger responds to this proposal with, "The equivalent train journey from the airport in Seattle is $6. I believe it's only $1 if you're over 65.” Which may be true, but isn’t very helpful to people in Chicago.

The last 15 pages of the Ghost in the Shell translation is footnotes. I skipped them. They are ravings of a lunatic.
Sample footnote: Pg 36 "Most types of artificial blood being considered are white in color; androids in recent science fiction have white blood. In my story, how-ever, in view of the antenna-effect and magnetism influence, I've given my android red blood with an iron component. The liquid that the neurochips are soaking in, by the way, is neither red blood nor white blood but a nearly transparent, artificial spinal fluid. Blood products apparently never flow directly into the human brain due to the "blood-brain barrier," and l've heard this is a special mechanism to ensure that foreign substances in the blood never directly attack the brain."

Great. We’re living in the future from Ubik where you argue with doors.
“The door refused to open. It said, “Five cents, please.”
He searched his pockets. No more coins; nothing. “I’ll pay you tomorrow,” he told the door. Again he tried the knob. Again it remained locked tight. “What I pay you,” he informed it, “is in the nature of a gratuity; I don’t have to pay you.”
“I think otherwise,” the door said. “Look in the purchase contract you signed when you bought this conapt.”
In his desk drawer he found the contract; since signing it he had found it necessary to refer to the document many times. Sure enough; payment to his door for opening and shutting constituted a mandatory fee. Not a tip.
“You discover I’m right,” the door said. It sounded smug.
From the drawer beside the sink Joe Chip got a stainless steel knife; with it he began systematically to unscrew the bolt assembly of his apt’s money-gulping door.
“I’ll sue you,” the door said as the first screw fell out.
Joe Chip said, “I’ve never been sued by a door. But I guess I can live through it.”

― Philip K. Dick, Ubik

This was a dumb idea. Reader Mode in Safari works fine. Which is good, because the site does not render correctly in Safari on the Mac.
The default rendering of the website is just a huge image with the text scrolling behind it for some reason (the reason being it was never tested on Safari)I guessed resizing the window would fix it, but still very annoying

Yes, I’m having a goat of a time working on my “turn crappy handheld videos into stabilized ‘seamless’ loops” workflow. I like how the videos preserve HDR (not that there is any on this marine layer overcast early morning) and the loops capture a moment with movement more than a single image does.
