This case is a reminder that understanding China takes more than language skills and the importance of lived experience by those who can offer nuanced analysis from the inside. Are Canadian institutions doing enough to recruit and retain that kind of talent? 3/

3. LinkedIn is the best cross-border executive stage

LinkedIn has become a global arena where policymakers, investors, journalists, and operators all show up under their real names. It’s a digital mini-Davos.

It is especially useful when geopolitical tension or regulatory pressure limits other channels. The most effective approach is a strong point of view, a first-person voice that engages the audience, and organic posts that connect broader market shifts to company strategy.

2. Every media hit should have nine lives

A keynote becomes a series of short clips. A tier-one article is reposted by a trusted voice. A broadcast quote is reframed for LinkedIn.

Xu calls this “asset extension.” It means designing a single executive appearance to travel across formats, audiences, and months. The goal is not a single spike of visibility, but sustained reach across investors, regulators, and local stakeholders, over a sustained period of time.

Drawing on experience at Brunswick Group, Ant Group, Ripple, and Nubank, Chenni Xu shares insights for companies navigating cross-border expansion, regulatory scrutiny, and the evolving Canada–U.S.–China business landscape: #asiabusiness #executivebranding 3/6
1. The content hub replaces the press release

At Chinese companies like Alibaba, Ant Group, and ByteDance, in-house film and content teams were not optional. They emerged out of necessity. With restricted domestic media on one side and skeptical Western coverage on the other, owned storytelling became the most reliable channel.

Media engagement still matters, but it now plays a supporting role. As the global media industry contracts, more Fortune 500 companies are adopting this model.

🧵Corporate communications isn’t about chasing media hits anymore. It’s about owning your narrative from the C-suite — and firms in Asia saw it coming first. So what can global leaders learn from Asia’s playbook? 1/6 #ExecutiveCommunications #StrategicCommunications
Corporate storytelling. Strategies from Asia's corporate storytelling playbook. Companies shaping perception today are not solely chasing traditional media hits. They are building their own narrative infrastructure: systems that carry messaging consistently across markets and borders. Firms operating in Asia understood this shift early. Swipe for tips -->
