Miracle Mile (1988) Miracle Mile is a boy meets girl, boy looses girl, boy attempts to find girl during a nuclear war movie. I highly recommend this one and it’s currently streaming free on Tubi and Pluto TV. This movie takes place in a day. Of course since I’m posting about it, you know what day…

Television Event (2020) Unfortunately this film isn’t currently streaming anywhere. This is a documentary about The Day After. I watched and video taped The Day After live when it aired in 1983 at 6 years old…

Testament (1983) I recommend everyone watch Testament, you do not need to know anything about nuclear war to love this film. I believe it is the best nuclear war movie that has been made. It will absolutely break your heart…

Testament Poster.
A gray rectangle with the following text “They never had a chance to see their children grow up.
To watch each other grow old.
To fix up the house, to take that vacation.
Because it only took an instant to shatter their dreams.

The Day After (1983) This film is, of course, one of the most well known nuclear war movies ever made. It significantly changed US opinion about nuclear war and it’s not hyperbole to say it played a role in the end of the Cold War.

Poster for The Day After

A missile is seen flying from the vantage point of a window. It blows the curtains. With the following text “They told us it would be impossible for us to make this movie.
They told us it would be impossible for you to watch it.
We hope nothing is impossible.
Th eDAY AFTER
-beyond imagining.”

The Days Ahead (2025) The Days Ahead is a British, anthology, film. It is currently available for rent or purchase on Amazon. It is prepper fantasy time. Each story shows a different level of preparedness, none show anyone living for long enough to really know how much devistation there is…

Chariot (2013) This movie is basically a conspiracy theory. It is similar in tone and theme to classics like House of Stairs or Cube. It is different from most trapped in a metal tube nuke movies (normally the metal tube is a bunker in these kinds of movies but it is sometimes a plane like this).

Poster for the movie Chariot. A CGI plane in the dark with the word Chariot.

World War Four 2019 Currently on Tubi #filmsky #moviesky This low budget movie from New Zealand combines stock footage and new content to make a mess. No attempt is made to match the appearance of the new footage with the stock footage even when it’s supposedly in the same scene…

Colossus: The Forbin Project 1970 This does involve nuclear weapons and is technically about a nuclear war, but it’s not the usual fare. An excellent film Colossus is about both AI and nukes! So you can get 2 existential crises for the price of 1! It’s about a computer system put in charge of…

The Atomic Cafe 1982 And now for something completely different… the Atomic Cafe is a very fun mashup of archival footage, songs, educational shorts, etc. all about nuclear war from a US perspective. It is both hilarious and horrifying. I strongly recommend this one and it’s currently free on Tubi.

Night into Day 2020 This is an explicitly Christian movie about nuclear war. IME most Christian nuke movies are about “the end times” (tm), this is refreshing in that it’s not. Like most religious movies it is extremely low budget, and wow can you feel how small that budget was.

Barefoot Gen (1983 subbed) Barefoot Gen is an anime film based on the experiences of Keiji Nakazawa after real life survivor of the Hiroshima bombing. It is the first not speculative movie I’m reviewing here. It is an excellent film and a decent introduction to nuclear war.

When the Wind Blows (1986) This British film is basically a study of what would’ve happened to an average Greatest Generation couple (James and Hilda) in a nuclear war in England. How they likely would’ve prepared, how they would’ve fared in the attack, and how they would’ve lived afterwards…
