Of course unions look out for their members but it defies belief that they chose *this week* to lobby for more North Sea oil drilling. They should be lobbying for super-generous retraining terms.

@unitesharon.bsky.social very disappointing. I usually like what you have to say, but opposing a rapid move to net zero - esp during a record heatwave! - is the wrong thing for workers, and the wrong side of history. Clean energy is bringing good, well paid jobs! www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

I think it’s a spectrum rather than an absolute. I think labour have done some positive things, not nearly enough, and often not the best way. For example the future homes standard, which is in the right direction but flawed. Burnham might do a bit more.

Also I think it’s worth remembering that we are stuck with Labour for the next 3 years and so if another leader might be a bit more progressive than Starmer and improve the country we live in in some ways, that’s not a bad thing

Well they would probably argue that’s what the leadership election will be about. I’m not saying Labour is better, that it will be better for trans people, that burnham will substantially change the party. I’m saying that to get PR, so we don’t have to think like this again, it’s worth it this time

There is a significant risk of a Farage majority at the next election because of our unfair electoral system, so we should be doing whatever we can to fix the electoral system so we don’t have to ask voters to vote tactically again

‘Labour’ is currently Starmers Labour, and Burnham *might* be different, and has worked to progress PR within the Labour Party, so isn’t necessarily the same on this issue, which IMO is the most Important issue because it holds back facism and enables more collaborative, greener politics

Especially if he had a green endorsement on grounds of implementing PR

Gorton and Denton wasn’t up against burnham. I don’t think we would have won if it was. The demographics are less favourable in Makerfield and reform are projected to easily win the seat (before this by election). I don’t think Labour will easily win it. I do think burnham has more chance than us

I’d rather they think they are popular for one by-election and get PR and avoid a reform government. “Labour” is not a single entity, there are different factions and individuals. I’d much rather Clive Lewis than Wes streeting. I’m not expecting miracles but I think there is a pragmatic way forward

Nick B @nrbrook.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
Yeah, he could publicly agree to it and then not do it. Starmer sure did. But this seems like the best shot at getting PR before the next election, which might be the only way to avoid a reform government. Seems worth the compromise, in a seat that we are unlikely to win

Nick B @nrbrook.bsky.social · 15/05/2026
@zackpolanski.bsky.social this should be about his commitment to PR. If he commits, then Reform won’t be able to form a government. But if we Greens block him, it’s FPTP in 2029 with a good chance of Reform majority. We must work together to prevent that. That could begin here.

I hope this isn’t true. There are times when it’s more important to put country before party. This is one of them. Burnham’s longstanding commitment to a fairer voting system could transform our democracy & counter the dire threat of a Reform UK government elected on a minority of the vote

I’ve not had any problems yet but they have introduced a new fixed intelligent go which has a better daytime rate but costs £25 to exit. Maybe they will clamp down on it but would it really make sense to frustrate their biggest advocates?

Yeah we’ve had the rough for a few months with very little smooth! What a shame. Maybe I’ll be back one day. It’s nice not to have the mental burden of it any more though. There is a cost to that too.

There seemed to be a big step about 6 months ago? When the off peak prices went from ~15p to ~24p, even though I didn’t change tariff. It’s just made it unviable, especially when prices are bad generally.

Sadly, agile is now consistently more expensive and has been since November. So now I’m on intelligent go, and unfortunately for the grid, environment and octopus, that means using power during the peak period. Agile needs to be more appealing.

I’ve got a givenergy inverter and EV charger, and I’m on octopus agile. I’ve also got a pi running homeassistant. But when I looked into setting it up in HA it looked too much effort. Currently I just use GE scheduling and wrote my own EV price scheduler in python.
