I am a 14th generation Maine summer person 🌲🦞, 14 men, father to son, who passed on the same last name on, father to son. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers among your loved ones! 3 of em: My dad, my dad with his (my grand father), same grand father on a horse, his dad / my great grand father.

My dad / my father, you US State Department Foreign Service Officer

My dad / my father as small child’s with his dad / my grand father, as the beach, either nearish West Hampton Beach NY or the Jersey Shore of NJ.

My grand father, maybe 17 or 18 years old, on a horse at a school in Arizona during the gap year between graduating Andover & starting Yale.

My great grand father, first man in my “only father to son” patrilineal line of same last name in my family tree to go to college, first man in that line to graduate from graduate school.

That said, his father in law was on the faculty of Cornell University, an Ivy League school.

His Rhode Island father & his journey from SF Bay CA to Manzanar CA to Redondo Beach CA is the basis of Frodo in “Lord of Rings”.

His patrilineal grandfather was the last merchant mariner sea captain of a long line of my patrilineal line of sea captains. They passed the sea captaining knowledge onward father to son during captain’s home leave, & perhaps more importantly grand father to son almost every day, for 9 generations (so 1634-1840s), using apprenticeship based training & global travel (eg both fishing & shipwright logging during Maine summers, & a mandatory tweenaged apprenticeship to Hong Kong with sea captain relatives vessels to learn southern stars (to become a master mariner in the Southern hemisphere too) & required get flu in Hong Kong to test if they would immediately die or not, because kids who got the flu lived drastically longer in life despite later flu epidemics).

I worry my work (including) spraying Round Up, June 1991, on a 1200 acre tree farm, did more harm to me than my health could manage. The invasive Asian black berry was growing 2 stories tall, smothering & killing our planted trees, so I was order to spray it, as digging it out ALWAYS failed.
