Going from Half-Life 2 dev to Halo 2 dev is like when you lose all of your shit halfway through a game

Checkpoint for Half-Life 2 (Ep2) I released it just over a week ago. Learned a LOT about advanced scripting, 3D asset creation and how difficult making something that allows for emergent gameplay can be. It really should have been a mod, ideally on Mapbase so I could've used Vscripts. #leveldesign

Brief update on what I've been up to. Started and completed a Half-Life 2 map that gives a player a goal and allows them to figure out on their own how to accomplish it. The idea was for something along the lines of Dishonored/general imsim, but achieving that sort of breadth isn't easy.

Working on my game and it currently feels like Anamorphic Art in how the illusion collapses if you move even a little from the intended vantage point.

After dwelling on it for a bit I'm deciding to start a proper blog. It should have been obvious to me from the beginning, but trying to write long-form about things over a bunch of posts in a thread isn't very fun. Will still post here, but when I have a bunch to say I'll just post a link.

Playing Quake 1 makes me long for what might have been. It's just a worse Doom, bunny hopping does not make a game good. The original concept was so much more interesting than what we got.

Some more WoT posting before bed, this time with pictures! The City of the dead looking appropriately dour, the final level had an interesting premise of "survive until dawn" while helping allied NPCs fight. The mages are immensely more effective than the wardens.

Picked up "The Wheel of Time", the 1999 PC game from GOG's summer sale. I've never read the books or seen any other derivative works, so it's my first time being exposed to the universe. The normal fiddling was needed to get things in a state I was happy with, using Piexoto's patch + ini edits.
