As Nova Scotians face another cold winter, New Democrats are calling on the Houston government to reverse his cruel cuts to HARP and make sure people can afford to heat their homes.

Today we remember the Indigenous families torn apart by the residential school system and honour the survivors and communities who carry that trauma still today. New Democrats remain committed to the work of reconciliation and to building a true nation-to-nation relationship with the Mi’kmaw people.

No one wants to live in a tent and no one wants to see people forced to live in an encampment. But this government took away unhoused Nova Scotians' legal right to the full income assistance rate — which could mean the difference between living in a tent or a home.

Four years ago, New Democrats elected Claudia Chender to lead our party. Since then, she's become the first women elected Leader of the Official Opposition in our province. And that’s not surprising. Everyone who knows Claudia as a leader, lawyer, and mom of three knows she gets things done.

Nova Scotian apartments and condos are now the highest-priced on average across the country. It's not getting any easier to afford a home in our province: over the last three years, rents in Nova Scotia have gone up 22.5% while in BC, Ontario, and Alberta they've gone down 5%.
