Saw the ending of Lanterns. Not bad. John feels more like himself, although not sure about the stars and dirt thing. Still feels like its own things with Green Lantern sloppily painted over it. Wet Sinestro is a disappointment. Manhunterss are totally wrong, too. But it's good TV.

Fuck you Google. I want my Assistant back. Gemini is dumb as a pile of shit. I just want to know the time, date, weather, and a short, custom message to start my day. Assistant was great for that. Oh, and "what sing is this?" Gemini can't do any of these VERY SIMPLE things.

Hot Take: I like this is concept. Billionaires should use their money to develop places and spread out their wealth. I just wish they would pick a place like Oklahoma or Missouri or Wyoming and change the US Electoral Map.

I liked and defended the live action Cowboy Bebop show on Netflix, so I know things will and should change based on the medium they're on. But this is its whole own story with the Green Lantern Corp slapped on like cheap paint.

Yoshihide Lu @notyoshihide.bsky.social · 21/09/2026

Lanterns on HBO would have been a great sci-fi IP. The dynamics and themes of the show are unique and engaging, the mystery box works, and I genuinely want to know what happens next. It's just not about the Green Lanterns. Hal, John, the Manhunters, it's just not how they are.

Holy crap, #TheUprising is a brilliant movie. I'm the age of Super Hero film supremacy, it's inevitable some cultural icons like Robin Hood get the treatment, but this bridges the gap between historical fiction and comic book perfectly. The Uprisng is well worth the watch!

Watched a few more episodes of The Paper and while I feel the cringe of some of it, it's the British comedy cringe where I'm laughing the whole time 😂 Honestly, this is what Andy would have been if they hadn't needed to turn him into a villain. Also, Oscar/Kevin bromance reference!

25 years ago I was in Middle School. I was supposed to have science class first thing of the day. Instead, my science teacher was crying & another teacher took all of us to the library. I later found out that my science teacher's fiance worked near / at Ground Zero. She took a month off after that.

Okay, first two episodes of the second season of The Paper is going really well. I was hesitant about the romantic leads being together already, but it's like they took Andy before the character derailment and the chemistry of Jim & Pam, then made them both the nerdy, clumsy Clark Kent persona.

The leaks of the Gorilla Grodd show is so disappointing. Why is Grodd in a college acapella group singing a love song? Grodd is a genocidal criminal mastermind psychic gorilla cast out by his own people. Ugh. Agh. Whatever. I believe there's not a wrong way to like fiction.

This is worth a read because it eviscerates the narration of "AI solved complex mathematical problems, we can now retire mathematicians" that's currently being pushed by the AI companies. (and in general please remain sceptical of any claims to independent thinking or intent by LLMs)

The TOS being so strict that they control you offsite is the problem; sites like Patreon and Kofi have offsite clauses too. The social criminalization of the suggestion that somewhere you might be doing nsfw is a problem. It's branding a person as obscene and we need consumers to stand up for us

Also John Boyega was awesome. The lack of 1st movie characters makes sense, considering they would have solved the plot in a minute. Technically they did, lol. "This never would have happened if Mako had been around!" Well yeah, that's why the movie had to not have her around 😂

Rewatching Pacific Rim Uprising, and it is a good movie. You just have to remember, that the first Pacific Rim was a live-action anime, complete with the plucky girl who defies otou-sama to pilot her own mech. The sequel is just that but with an academy training arc 😂

I am extremely excited for Forgotten Island. DreamWorks doing a Filipino film based on Filipino mythology and cast with Filipino talent. This is what Raya should have been. Or use a similar folk lore from Vietnam, Malaysia, or Indonesia. Not mash them all together.

010

Yoshihide Lu @notyoshihide.bsky.social · 25/07/2026

The original story for Raya and the Last Dragon was called "Dragon Empire" and was just vaguely Asian made by three white people. Then they decided to pivot it to a Southeast Asian window. They took a bunch of ideas and tossed it into a pot with their original idea. 😔

110

Yoshihide Lu @notyoshihide.bsky.social · 25/07/2026

I'm always frustrated when I see western media takes on an "Asian fantasy setting" Like I know Raya was supposed to be Disney coming up with Southeast Asian representation, but it's still a 5/7th white person written story jamming a bunch of aspects of different Asian culture into one fantasy world

I read Homer's Odysseus a long time ago. It's a seminal piece of fiction. And wow this was fantastically done, a brilliant depiction of the travels of Odysseus. There's a few narrative changes, but I feel it totally works for the tone of the film. It's brilliant. Nolan's best film ever.
