Still feeling the rampant speculation itch, so let's jump on the Apple Girlington train for #deltarune: Catti's Dark World form is a magical girl. She's been the one anonymously arguing with Alphys which season of Mew Mew Kissie Cutie is better. Her goth persona is only *mostly* a cover.

These guys might be taking a shortcut to "deliciousness" by coating themselves in salt, and could be seen as dishonorable by the other Salmonid tribe. We might be getting ourselves into the midst of a conflict between the two, and have our first glimpse into their deeper culture.

On a more serious note, these Spiralite Salmonids may be from a different tribe than the ones we're used to, given how different they look. The culture of "live deliciously" and the Salmonid focus on honor has some interesting implications for that salt coating.

Just realized some incredibly important lore implications about the upcoming #splatoon game: Salmonids have a culture of "live deliciously," powerful warriors slain in battle provide a tasty meal. The high-ranking Salmonids in the trailer are covered in salt. They're *literally* seasoned warriors.

In retrospect, I think part of the issue was that Unova was meant to be themed after America, yet they weren't entirely comfortable letting Pokémon not be in a Japanese region. This left the legendaries with a halfhearted mishmash of inspirations, and many fell short of their potential as a result.

I can see why you're worried about Nintendo mishandling an IP like that, but Splatoon in particular is handled by a team that seems to care pretty deeply about messages towards cultural introspection. I think they'll have something to say here.

Not Quite Nil @notquitenil.bsky.social · 22/04/2026
I don't think they'd be that crass with Splatoon of all things. They've been pretty keen to send *messages* with these games every time. Either there's a big wakeup brewing, or this is a rival culture they're stealing from and they're caught in the middle of a Salmonid style Great Turf War.

It’s so important to engage with other art forms as a game dev. This is a medium heavily influenced by ones older than it, for better and for worse. A lot of your favorite horror games have roots in amazing movies. And read! Please read! There are folks who think that this isn’t relevant. It is!

Stuff like this is why I basically don't have accounts for anything anymore. I was late to the train on a lot of things, and now it all wants an account to even see content from outside links. If you want me to use your service, let me see what it's like to actually use it before I make an account!

PSA for those who have switched over from Windows to Linux for gaming (via Steam): As you may know, each game running via Proton is given its own prefix, simulating locations like Documents / Appdata to house saves + configs. That prefix, and all its files, is deleted ENTIRELY upon game uninstall.

Project Plowshare was an attempt to use nukes for practical purposes: from digging canals to reshaping entire landscapes. But instead, it turned into an environmental disaster. What happened to it, and why did it fail in the end? Watch our full video to find out: kgs.link/ProjectPlowshare

Gonna go out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure it failed because they were trying to use nukes to dig canals and reshape landscapes.

great reporting here. basically yes DLSS 5 is running a gen AI model on the 2D output and nothing more. it doesn’t know anything about the 3D scene, textures / models / lighting / PBR other than what the model infers by looking at a frame. TL:DR, they sped up slop. youtu.be/D0EM1vKt36s?...

Update: Devs were left in the dark on DLSS 5, meaning their hard work was altered, modified and sloppified without their consent, to their shock. Disrespect is not a strong enough word to describe the perverse mockery of craft 😭 Source: insider-gaming.com/dlss-5-gamer...
Developers Were Left in the Dark
About DLSS 5
Speaking with developers and artists at studios that have agreed to DLSS 5, including CAPCOM and Ubisoft, Insider Gaming was told that the DLSS 5 tech was revealed to them at the same time as everyone else.
"We found out at the same time as the public," said one Ubisoft developer.
Developers at CAPCOM tell Insider Gaming that the announcement and the publisher's involvement were particularly shocking, as CAPCOM has previously been historically very "anti-Al" with projects such as Resident Evil Requiem and other unannounced projects in development. Some at the publisher fear that the DLSS 5 announcement could prompt a change in the publisher's view on generative Al and its implementation in its games

On the other hand, if you hit a pothole the wrong way you could be out about ten times as much. So it's all relative I guess? ...don't ask how I got that number. (Seriously, what I wouldn't give to live somewhere with a streetcar network or something)

Played Slay the Spire 1 again today to see if I could get some design inspiration flowing. Instead I ended up making a build where I had one card that just played itself and burned the enemy with status damage from playing that card. I never even ended my turn. ...I think that means I beat the game?

More-or-less the principal behind the yggdrasil protocol that's been tossed around for a while now. Main problem is that it's "independent" but still relies on centralized infrastructure, so it has an inherent flaw that bad faith actors could still exploit. That's a higher bar to overcome.

Ah, if only this had happened a year or two down the line... I'll be keeping an eye on you guys. One of my bigger hurdles is figuring out where I want to start the work once the time comes, and a scrappy outlier seems like the kind of ambition that I could really get along with, if all goes well.

Majora's Mask has that reputation because it's the most in-your-face about the gloom of it all. Its predecessor is packed with quiet moments of loss and despair. OoT is *shockingly* bleak when you look at the state of Hyrule in the future. Bit of a media literacy test, in my opinion.

Why did nobody tell me about Luminous Arc's soundtrack sooner? I knew the second one had some Spanish guitar vibes to it, but the first game's OST just whalloped me with major nostalgia. Serious Nightmare of Druaga vibes. Think a proper playthrough is in order... www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTQK...

One of the things that excites me the most about designing the characters and world of my game is the hope that someday I can hear you talk the little details, see if my designs communicated those ideas well enough for you to pick up on. So I'd say you've made it, you're a genuine goal for people!

I'm so glad you chose the music you did for this, it led me to basically the perfect inspiration source for a song in my own game that I'd been struggling to really describe. I'd never heard FF8's soundtrack to know this leitmotif was there, so I never knew how much I was missing out!

To be glad that something has changed and grown, yet also long for what it once was - what could be more profoundly human? This mindset seems especially natural to the digital space, where we get excited for every leap forward, yet long for perfectly captured memories we can never quite relive.

If Nintendo really wants to spice up splatling gameplay all they need to do is add a melee attack. Let's be real, everyone who's used one has wanted to do that at least once. I know that's a look that says they would.

Also a great way to see if the material you're considering citing is worth using. I've had several incidents where I've investigated the source of a quote, only to find the writer completely mutilated the context to fit a different narrative. Instantly discredited them.

You also have to be more specific w/ credits, in addition to asking for permission. It's one thing to name drop someone like Thens/Molly, but when you only say "data/unused content" it makes it sound like all you did was look at a spreadsheet they made. And not that you actually took a specific mod.
