today thinking about how the metaphor of “waves in an ocean” and death as a “wave returning to the ocean” is often regarded as “woo” but from another perspective the idea that the universe is continuous and that objects being discreet is just a sort of temporary appearance, is pretty straightforward to explain and not really more or less woo than the alternative

@gbl08ma.com so from my reading, we are using tempfile::tempdir, which by default creates directories in env::temp_dir() which is set by TMPDIR env var or defaults to /tmp doc.rust-lang.org/std/env/fn.t... docs.rs/tempfile/lat...

@ngerakines.me would you accept a PR if I change the instrument of this function to: #[instrument(err(level = Level::DEBUG))] so it doesnt log an error message if its expected failure? or i might be misunderstanding something

excited to share lichen.page, a cms for static site generators, built on atproto there are also a number of other strange things about it. I would describe it as a sort of software as research, but you can also use it, and curious what people make of it

for reasons I don't yet understand, it appears my home server network traffic increased by around 5x on 5-28-25 after pretty consistently being ~1gb per day before then may need to start breaking this down by domain somehow to actually understand this (output of vnstat -d)

@dame.is @asura.dev here is an article which mentions google and microsoft www.forbes.com/sites/jemmag... also this article which it cites: archive.ph/DTxB , which cites archive.ph/VWBSR which cites a google report from 2024 which is quoted in the screenshot
"In 2023, our total GHG emissions were 14.3
million tCO2e, representing a 13% year-over-
year increase and a 48% increase compared
to our 2019 target base year. This result was
primarily due to increases in data center
energy consumption and supply chain
emissions. As we further integrate AI into
our products, reducing emissions may be
challenging due to increasing energy demands
from the greater intensity of AI compute, and
the emissions associated with the expected
increases in our technical infrastructure
investment"

sure. so the site is made with lichen-markdown, and @chillygorilly.bsky.social and I share the login to the admin interface, so we can both add and edit pages. we sometimes chat about it, or just spontaneously add things and tell the other. so far just the two of us, but could grow

internet radio idea of the day... *-*-*-*-* curious how the following idea would relate to legal definitions of internet radio? & the line between a livestream, and a store and forward network ?
p2p internet radio :: body-double-radio (inspired by https://drdevonprice.substack.com/p/being-socially-motivated-is-not-a) ::

- as I play music, what I listen to is broadcast as internet radio
and my friends can tune into my stream
- my stream is not just broadcast live, but broadcast with a 24 hour play history, so people can see the last 24 hour history and tune into any part (inspired by store and forward gossip networks with broadcasts via relays)
- the player that tunes into a stream "plays before downloading", so its a broadcast not reproduction (but clients have seamless built-in analog hole plugins to save streams with the correct metadata)
- imagining a terminal-user-interface for this whole thing kind of like cmus, but with an extra window to see all of my friends/peers who have play history in the last 24 hours along with a browsable timeline of their play history along with possibility to leave little notes with songs on your broadcast

... sort of a halfway-house in between soulseek, spotify friends are playing, and internet radio...

> The Resilience Journal uses the idea of data-tracking as an objective tool for holding space for illness. The data is neither good or bad, it just… is. I wanted to show myself and others that living with chronic illness/disability is not always something that needs to be fixed or struggled against
