My first post needed a certain amount of gravitas but my second post can be about how my former student snuck a kitten into the school last week. I asked if we could put a picture of the kitten in the yearbook and was told no.

I’m here, I’m hopeful, I’m also tapping the sign. However past me from 2022 I have great news re: that first bullet point
A Tumblr post from this user stating “privately owned social media companies are never going to be the tools of liberation we wish they were. They’re good until they’re not. We have to be thinking behind the current models that unltimately end in the decisions of a few wiping out entire segments of internet history” and a follow up post “Things that I think are really worth our time. Coming up with new ways to research social media platforms because often by the time research is published the information is outdated. Documenting these spaces is important. Documenting the problems in these spaces is important. Experimenting with what nonprofit social media would look like. The nonprofit industrial complex is also terrible but there’s minimum the potential for a transitional model there. Building your own online space that you (sort of) control in the form of a website or blog and from there creating a human network rather than relying on existing recommendation engines to show you to your audience.”
