The Google News feed on my phone (that I can't turn off or customise without giving Google all my personal data) continues to serve up outright propaganda.

Just a thought, but maybe - especially given you're meant to be a leftish paper opposed to everything he stands for - don't accept and amplify Farage's framing of his actions in their entirety?
A screenshot of the Guardian with the headline: "Farage says he is resigning but will stand in 'people v establishment byelection", followed by a sub: "Reform UK leader to stand again, saying people of Clacton 'should be the judges of my actions' and party will cover byelection cost", and a photo of Farage with a union flag in the background

Really, it was only a matter of time.

These are the kinds of jobs the algorithm's throwing my way these days... I have a very simple strategy to recommend, but it involves having some fucking principles and not being shit, so...

To take my mind off the resurgence of mainstream political parties scapegoating foreigners rather than admit that *they* fucked us all over, I'm practicing my French via the excellent Atlas de Paris, by Danielle Chadych and Dominique Leborgne, found in a charity shop for £4 and worth ten times that.

"Now?" I mean, I'm not a massive US history buff, but has there ever been a period where political violence *wasn't* a feature of US life? Every single gun death in the US is due to a deliberate political choice, and so an example of political violence, FFS!

In happier news, earlier I watched the gloriously shot 1962 film Ilektra, directed by Michael Cacoyannis, but made astonishing by Walter Lassaly's cinematography. And Irene Papas, obviously. Her eyes are insane. In every sense of the word

Don't include the words "David Cameron" and "big" in the same headline. I misread it and got flashbacks.

I started reading this before the Supreme Court's reductive, reactionary ruling. That ruling has, however, made this much more topical - especially the righteous anger of the concluding chapter, ranting about the harm binary views of sex and gender cause to *all* women. Recommend.
