Read Naomi Alderman’s “The Power”. Powerful message on how women would be no better if THEY had physical dominance.

One of these is a crime. The standard is higher.

Need to get Max on. He’s the only player we have that just does stuff.

No less than they deserve. To this point we don’t deserve anything from this match.

A Raya light in an otherwise dark half.

Really poor half from Arsenal.

Arteta needs an “offensive coordinator”.

I continue to have some doubts that Arteta really has answers for unlocking the final third. It’s his Achilles heel.

Noni gets the nod at LW over Eze. Kind of makes sense - he tactically fits better with Calafiori, while Eze - who you want coming inside - fits better with Hincapie, who will stay wide and overlap.

The Germans: Thomas Muller, Toni Kroos, Mats Hummels, Marko Arnautovic (yes, I know he's Austrian)

A bunch of other real former footballers were in Victory: Bobby Moore, Ossie Arviles, Paul Van Himst, others... Here's my list of guys at least done with international football, or outright retired: Olivier Giroud, Luis Suarez, Sadio Mane, Freddy Adu, David Luiz, Clint Dempsey, James Tomkins

Pele: Lionel Messi This has to be a top-tier star who just retired or is done with international football (as active players don't have time for several-week movie shoot otherwise.)

Von Steiner: Michael Fassbender This was Max Von Sydow in the original. Renee: Adele Exarchopoulos Sexier than Carole Laure in the original. Which only makes it easier to get invested in her peril, and easier to see Hatch falling for her.

Hatch: Glen Powell or Michael B. Jordan Either one could plausibly be someone athletic enough to play but having to be taught how to be a goalkeeper. They fit what Stallone was in 1981.

John Colby: Nicholas Hoult This was, of course, Michael Caine in 1981. He was 47 when the movie was filmed and actually looked too old to plausibly be playing high level football. I would want to go a touch younger. Hoult is 36 now - closer to the right age.

Random thing I've been musing on tonight after a couple of gummies... If you were doing a remake of "Victory" today, who would you cast? Here is mine... 🧵

Now, oftentimes it works in reverse. You may be, say, an anti-abortion absolutist, so you then internalize the messaging on other issues from the people who will give you that.

Yep. A core difference between liberal and conservative outlook, what underpins gravitation towards an ideology, is how much you care about other people and common good.

My friend is fine - she hasn’t been laid off. But a whole bunch of Trump-supporting drivers were laid off because of Trump.

I have a friend/former business associate who works for a large trucking company in the DFW. They laid off 30% of their drivers last week. MOST of them drive in a red trucker cap. Or did until his stupid war cost them their jobs.

Anyone who envisioned Eze at LW... we're about to find out if that works. Looks like we'll be heading into Leeds down two of our three starting forward (plus Saliba), with some question hanging over Rice, Konsa, Hincapie and White. 7/21 senior outfield players with some level of injury concern.

I would like to see it designed in such a way that the restaurants and some other common spaces are used by both the men and women, more in keeping with "One Club". Having the men and women fully sequestered seems to cut against that.

I would just love for every opposing stadium or away section to just spend the whole match chanting, "One-fourteen! One-fourteen!"

The hammer needs to come down. City need to be, at best, on the level of maybe Aston Villa when this is all over. They'll have to stay within the rules to build themselves up into something bigger. Hopefully the PL does not demur from this imperative. END

30 points this season and 20 for the next four means that City's squad will head for the exits because wining the league and European play are off the table until well into the next decade. 20 points being deducted from a gutted squad will mean relegation fights will be in City's near future.
120
Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Again, if the PL goes this route, they will never be seen by the public as a competition that is on the level again, and future transgressors will know that it's worth it to do because you can come out ahead in the end. Potential sanctions are just the cost of doing business.

Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Now, the cynic in me that expects corrupt football governance envisions City being be sent down for a season, fined & handed a transfer ban... so they were given half a transfer window's head start to fortify the squad to ride it out, then return to normal business.

Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
City's breaches were deliberate attempts to evade the league's financial guard rails, and were followed by an aggressive coverup. They built a super-club illicitly.

Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Another way to do it would be to hand City a 30 point deduction this season, and 20 points per season for the next 4. In light of Everton getting 6 points for £25M in breaches that were a result of projection inaccuracy, not corruption, this is reasonable - even lenient.
140
Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
A simple sanction plan would be to send City down to League Two after the season. That way they cannot possibly return to the PL before 2030-31. The squad will obviously be gutted as there will be a stampede for the exits. Many of these players will go at huge financial loss.

Also worth pointing out that Bouaddi, Enzo, Ndiaye & Allan (we're not sure of Anderson) all signed after City KNEW they had been found guilty. All of them should have a pretty good legal case to void their contracts, meaning City are just SOL on £330-446M of transfer fees.
120
Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
If the PL wants to ever be considered on the level again, they cannot allow City to outrun their punishment with the head start they were for some reason given.
120
Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Further, because they for some reason were informed privately of the verdict by the Premier League with 6 weeks left in the window, they attempted to future-proof their squad with a £450M spending spree.

Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
The objective of the City punishment should be: Do not allow them to keep the superclub they built illicitly. Make them return to the competition in a way that they cannot pump oil money to make themselves a "big" club again - they must rebuild fairly. 🧵

Famously rich Arsenal that spent over a decade developing and selling players so they could pay off their stadium debt. Selling (or at times even losing out on free transfers) to the same financially doped cheats crying now.

Revenues will plummet. They’ll have to rebuild fairly. They’ll be back to a Crystal Palace-level club.

Scott In Chicago @northsidegooner.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
The objective should be to return City to what they were before they financially doped themselves into a super club. A simple 4 years of -25 will do it. There will be a stampede for the doors. They won’t be able to replace with any quality. They’ll be fighting relegation by year 3.

Some people have been saying hamstring, but it definitely looks like it was just getting raked from his knee down to his foot by Timber's brother.

Not a hamstring. Raked his knee with his studs.

No other nation IN THE WORLD would have it suggested that they should not respond with force to a 9/11-scale terrorist attack targeting their civilians. The world largely yawned at 10/7, but immediately condemned Israel for responding AT ALL.
