Replaying the latest #musicproduction attempt now for the first time through speakers and a bit shocked by the sub-bass... but overall pretty happy with it, as a sign I'm starting to move forward with my music production at least. Definitely has some potential.

[AI] Sadly, I've had recent exposure in the day job to a customer reviewing outputs with what I assume is the latest Claude model and making a large set of proposals for "improvements". This has taken 2 weeks of almost the whole project team to reach the conclusion that the original #AI review […]

#nowplaying "Laughing Stock". Every time I listen to one of Talk Talk's last 3 albums I start to think life is too short for mediocre music.

Started selectively (re) #reading the Terry Pratchett books, beginning with the "night watch" series. I'd forgotten how good they are and it's amazing how often you read something that could be a comment on today.

RE: tante.cc/2026/09/10/rediscovering-t… It's admittedly a bit rambly and not well written, but I needed to think a bit about why we keep just rolling with tech's narratives. And I really think we need to find our middle finger again and raise it to the skies..

Pleasantly surprised to discover not always automatically defaulting to 4/4- I seem to have written & released something in 6/4 without realizing it 😂. #musicproduction

#nowplaying and loving "Lost in another world" by James Ellis Ford, it's incredible this was written in two weeks while seriously Ill in hospital. He's produced some great albums before, so I was optimistic, but above all this feels like deeply honest music, and I think the rest follows […]

#nowplaying Orange Crush "Eidolons" recently out on Sun Sea Sky. Just lovely stuff - the quality is high enough that I'm over the obvious BOC comparisons, it's definitely got its own character and atmosphere :) orangecrush.bandcamp.com/album/eido… #music #electronica #idm #ambient […]

Just listening back to my last 'new' effort (rather than the last track that I actually uploaded) and I might be getting confident enough in my new stuff (or at least in deciding if it is worth pursuing or not) to keep some promising tracks back rather than uploading everything. Hopefully this […]

Now playing Manual "Ascend" and thinking what a great and genuinely exciting time for #electronic #music the late 90s/ early 2000s was. My own music unfortunately missed the peak of that wave but it (classic #idm, bedroom #ambient #electronica, #cc, community #netlabels) is still massively […]

My #sony walkman nwz-a15. Robust, compact, huge memory, plays lossless audio, can do useful things (for a #music producer at least) like repeat sections of tracks and even vary the playback speed... Quite possibly my favorite possession...

Image of a (slightly dirty) Sony mp3 walkman in rubber case. Looks a bit like a very small old-fashioned mobile phone

The #bluesky app seems quite flaky - it's definitely not working for me at the moment... (I mainly only repost from here but try to respond to replies there). Brings home how reliable #mastodon is, I've just got used to always being able to access it

Just listened to the whole of this 1hr 15min deep #drone from (the unbelievably prolific) Brian Granger. Definitely at the extreme end of what I will listen to but the tones/warmth of this are very nice. pspsph.bandcamp.com/album/green-mind

I know he has a lot on, but in the midst of a ferocious drought, fires, heat events and severe threats to food production, it would be quite edifying to hear Andy Burnham mention climate breakdown.

In case you missed it at the weekend, my latest track attempt 'Daybreak' is up on #soundcloud. I may write a blog about this and other new/old tracks I've uncovered recently (it's interesting that perspective sometimes seems to help with finishing tracks that seemed irretrievably stuck at the […]

Working to finish another old track, and amazed by how many different drum sounds I used. The VST I used no longer works, so I'm having to recreate the separate tracks from the audio, and it makes it a nightmare to mix... #musicproduction

I think "Blood in the labyrinth" is actually one of my favorites from the new #BOC album. I love that stop-start thing they do where each repetition brings in a new idea. #music #electronic #idm

This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.

Currently working with the label (Sun Sea Sky) on "something" and, as it's clearly quite practical and now relatively easy to self-release, it's worth thinking about *why* I do this- maybe useful for someone else making similar decisions...

Frustratingly I've just stumbled on an old track I really like but the cubase project seems to have been lost. Maybe that's why it was never completed

After small a streak of tracks early in the year, various reasons meant I had to take a few months off from producing. What's surprising is coming back to it and finding my first(ish) attempt at something completely new seems to be evolving into something releasable. Not my normal experience, at […]
