We are sad to announce that our longtime cover art editor, Gary Kelley, passed away on Sunday. He was 81. His art style gave the magazine a distinct visual identity that is much admired. He was generous, prolific, and talented beyond measure. We are planning a special fall issue to honor his legacy.

A Review of Jim Reese's Coming to a Neighborhood Near You
There's an old saying that a conservative becomes a liberal after being accused of a crime, and a liberal becomes a conservative after becoming the victim of a crime. Author Jim Reese's new book Coming to a Neighborhood Near You: The Repercussions of Crime and Punishment turns that well-worn saw on its face.

I'm pleased that my review of @martinespadapoet.bsky.social's "Jailbreak of Sparrows" is in @northamerreview.bsky.social's Open Space. Espada's poetry has long championed the voiceless. My piece also highlights a lesser-known aspect of his work. Read more: bit.ly/jailbreakofs.... #poetry
