What even are my preferences? I don't even know until you present something to me. This is the death of art in general, the demand to cater every experience to what's already familiar to me. Unironically a fascist sentiment.

Yes, which is why all the discourse about demanding difficulty modes, not liking timers and wanting to mod friction out of games bored me to no end. Games are cool PRECISELY because they demand you experience them on their terms. I deeply hate this trend of catering art to a person's interests.

Social Media Has Not Brought Liberation

Social media has been a boon to autocratic regimes and their allied movements in democracies.

For all the talk of the establishment impeding El-Sayed or not getting behind him or whatever, they're the ones actually pulling their weight for him here. But I guess these progressives have more important things to worry about, like Ed Sheeran's lack of moral clarity on Palestine or whatever.

Leftists only care about the factional dispute, and Trump actually makes it so their brand of socialism is more likely to appeal to voters as fiery as combative. Once the Dem is beaten, enthusiasm dwindles. Platner's campaign was also broke when he dropped out. www.axios.com/2026/09/22/s...

It was pretty awful TV after Season 2, but in hindsight it also attained a hilarity factor. Score was good, though. I'm not even a "the mysteries weren't answered!!" person, the show just makes no sense in general. It doesn't even have a set premise or internal logic.

Lost wasn't a puzzle box, it was simply a dumpster in which Lindelof and Cuse threw thousands of cut up pieces that didn't fit every week, while fans desperately tried to make a coherent picture out of it, only to discover there never was one. Severance is hindered by actually having to make sense.

Super cool write up! Seems like a game I'll get when it hits 40 bucks and spend a weekend with my wife next to me on the couch going "what the fuck??" at, which is always a good experience.

I think most of his policy views are squarely within the "normie" sphere, which makes the reluctance to simply take the W on these kinds of questions even more annoying.

Absolutely. But we don't have to pretend the usual suspects approached said accomplishments with any sort of goodwill either. Everything was framed as either the minimum or not good enough.

Abdul El-Sayed is pretty close to a normie Dem and his victory is absolutely crucial in Michigan, but stop actively chasing banana peels to slide on, man. Just fucking say the IRGC is awful, Khamenei was a butcher, but that still doesn't justify Trump's intervention in Iran. Fucking done.

AI won't simply disappear and if we want it to be regulated we better be fucking familiar with how it works and what its capabilities are. Right now it's exceedingly rare to hold an office job of any sort and not have come into contact with ChatGPT or Claude. We can't afford to be ignorant.
000
normiecore.bsky.social @normiecore.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
This is stupid. How can you even be against AI if you have no inkling of how it works or what it does? Do you believe people use ChatGPT because they're dumb drones or far right lunatics? Or because it's actually useful in some scenarios and we should recognize that when putting in guard rails?

If they give money to both sides of the aisle, why is it that the techno fascists only "now" have those countries? Wouldn't they by definition then have had them (and every other country) already? These "both sides" ghouls can't even be consistent in their fuckery. Impressive.

Convincing young people that America is poor & no one can afford anything & everyone is living paycheck to paycheck & their economic future is doomed ... IS NOT GOING TO LEAD TO MORE PROGRESSIVE POLICY. People who feel anxious & under threat do not respond with openness & generosity! Look it up!

Hillary Scholten didn't commit to endorsing El Sayed, a position I disagree with, but a) not a statement that she'd prefer a Republican to win the seat due to ideological similarities and b) not dissimilar to the position some progressives took regarding Kamala (for instance, Rashida Tlaib's).

And it sucks because this reverberates and creates this environment of persecution and paranoia among progressives and socialists who then will obviously feel justified in lashing out and being even more obnoxious towards liberals, here and elsewhere. But that's just what gets attention these days.

The post makes it seem as if this is a sentiment held by dozens of in office Dems, or people high ranking in the party. Where are they? Maybe it simply isn't true and you're taking what some people have said on Twitter and Twitch streams as representative of the party. Just maybe.
100
normiecore.bsky.social @normiecore.bsky.social · 31/07/2026
And then you ask for a single example of a high profile Dem who has openly said they'd support a Republican over a progressive due to the GOP representing their values more closely and you won't get a response. Because we can just say things that sound true to a certain sect and they become reality.

Emily Wilson's piece on Christopher Nolan's THE ODYSSEY for the LRB went viral and was received very positively by many — but not by virtually every film critic I know. For @animusmagazine.bsky.social I wrote about why: animus-magazine.ghost.io/a-tale-as-ol...

You can govern in a way that shapes public opinion through policy. You won't change public opinion through a campaign. Electoral politics is meeting the voters where they already are, not where you'd like them to be. That's both fortunate and unfortunate.

Trump's position on immigration is the center in American politics. So is his position on policing. DSA's position on foreign aid to Israel very likely is now the center as well. The center isn't where moderate Dems/Bulwark writers are. It's not an ideological threshold.
100
normiecore.bsky.social @normiecore.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
The "center" isn't an abstract projection concocted by the DNC to browbeat progressives or whatever the fuck, it's whatever the median voter perceives it to be. If you don't get there, you're screwed. Period. Every single candidate has to moderate to win, yes, even GOP ones!

normiecore.bsky.social @normiecore.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
Both Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton were perceived by voters as more extreme and further away from their politics than Trump. That VERY LIKELY DOESN'T REPRESENT REALITY, AND YET THAT DOESN'T MATTER. Reality is what the voters put on the ballot box. You run to the "center" as in where voters are.

People for some reason don't understand that politics is aesthetics first and foremost. I don't care if BlueSky understands Trump is a fascist, he won two elections by virtue of BEING SEEN BY THE ELECTORATE AS THE MODERATE CHOICE. We have actual polls and numbers on this. Look it up.

Translators aren't script writers for a reason. I think it's incredibly silly of Wilson to come at a film under the lens of her work as if they set out to accomplish similar things. Her perspective is of course valid, but this reads as her enjoying the spot light a bit too much.

The whole Mao debate is insane to me. How about we all agree that the kind of leader that ends up killing tens of millions through "mismanagement" is abhorrent and shouldn't be defended? Who gives a flying fuck about intentionality here? Isn't it just as bad an indictment on the ideology?

What gives away this specific game is the fact that the American left talks about "the working class" and not "the poor", as left wing parties in the global south do.

This specific intersection of leftist/islamist either doesn't give a shit about minorities or actively believe them to impede progress. Some may hide it better than others and Jilani at least is honest in giving away the game, but it's a more widely held position than you'd think.

Remember when MMT was popular during COVID? When leftists called Joe Biden a mass murderer for giving insufficient stimulus? There's no notion of a trade off for these people. Just never trust them. A Party that wants to be popular is one that understands price stability comers before anything else.

normiecore.bsky.social @normiecore.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
Never ever trust someone who says they'd gladly pay more for X if Y. It's always a lie. People just have an idea of how much a product/service should cost (i.e. a figure that would make their consumer preference always attainable) and everything breaks when prices deviate from that.

No mention of Gaza as a main culprit for the loss (which is what everyone was drooling for, let's be fucking honest), so I'm just waiting for the "its been tamperedwith/edited!!!" rhetoric to start, thus validating Martin's concerns with the public release in the first place.

My guess is there's no way a game starting development now with a projected 4 year cycle will release without using AI assistance at any point. I think it's a dumb crusade that studios won't be able to follow through. Just be realistic and keep it away from the writing and art.
