Climate change has contributed to almost drying up the mighty Rhine, which is creating serious logistical headaches for German industry, and somehow Merz thinks that already modest efforts to reduce atmospheric carbon inputs need to be hamstrung further?

Theres also the issue that outside Galileo, Europe or EU as a whole don't put operate constellations of military satellites, individual countries do, resulting in duplication of resources. Although I am surprised nobody has taken it upon themselves to launch swarms of cubesats at the problem

Its a pity Oneweb hasn't been made more capable in the intervening years. But like it or not given the lead times for anything like this, starlink is really the only game in town.

Just because the EU doesn't shout in public, doesn't mean nothing happens at all. Do you think musk cut off access to russian starlink attennae last year out of the goodness of his heart?

I suspect most people are aware that way more cars are sold in Germany than in Norway or Nepal. Showing high market penetration shows there is not a glass ceiling to EV sales, and that Germany for example lags those markets. Anyway China registered more new BEVs in August than ICE in the US

This seems more than a little tone-deaf given the current geopolitical situation and the sharp uptake in BEV sales globally. Why waste so much political capital on an issue whose inevitably is no longer in doubt.

Every short cut in servicing and maintainance to keep up war production in the face of sanctions, incurs a technical debt that inevitably gets paid.

I mean he was detained for being there illegally and deported, as would be expected. Maybe the US was offered first dibs, and declined. Or maybe they were never contacted in the first place.

One ship does not a shortage end. The image of the US being bailed out of a fuel crisis of its own making by russia, however is indelible. Further cementing its terminal decline as the worlds superpower. Anyone who still considers them an ally, would do well to consider how low they will go.

From doing you gov surveys, i find somtimes the questions are framed using emotive language or scenarios. Other times, the available answers are at extreme bookends, with no room for a more nuanced response. Yesterday it was about 45 yo Gary with ADHD who has never worked a day in his life.

Which is the fate that awaits russian drivers this winter. Amd now Ukraine has shown it can overwhelm air defences deep within russia, how long before we start to see cities there plunged into darkness and cold. Ukrainians endure because the alternative is unthinkable.

They might also want to consider that sitting in your car for hours in the freezing cold waiting for fuel will be a miserable business too. Of course you could leave your engine running for heat, but then you run the risk of having to push the car to the pump when fuel does finally arrive.

True, but I would guess above 600- 700 m, conditions would start getting tough for all but the hardiest. Of course it depends on how much sun and wind any particular slope gets. The tree line is not fixed, it thins out and local microclimate determines which species will dominate.
