My reading of the literature on employment effects of minimum wage is that nobody who works on it will ever be unemployed

Had a dream where I was accused of academic fraud, went to court, they said my stuff didn’t replicate, I said “that’s because you can’t do what I can do” and then I went to jail

I really want to post here more since it’s great to have a place with insightful discussions, and most of econ Twitter is here But the effort of finding everyone, combined with the less dynamic variety compared to Twitter, makes me feel less inclined to post

Spent like an hour trying to figure out this data issue and went on a walk and thought of the solution in 10 minutes. Is this how micro theorists research?

Do academics actually find grading to be an annoying chore in of itself or is it because they have other obligations and are busy? I got to grade as a TA once and I loved it! I’d probably love it more if I actually designed the test too

Can't believe the Italians took citrus digestive properties, mixed it with alcohol, marketed it as a healthy after-dinner drink, and then named the entire post-meal tradition "digestivo" to make it sound medicinal Genuinely incredible

Today I am thankful for the Hall-Jorgensen model of taxes and investment. I am thankful for optimal commodity taxation under Atkinson-Stieglitz. I am thankful for production efficiency under Diamond-Mirrlees. I am thankful for Slemrod-Kopczuck optimal taxable income elasticity.

The best part about academia is all the seminars happening. GSB is nice since you get a bunch of different disciplines, but having even broader access is great too Like, the digital economy lab at the computer science department that @erikbryn.bsky.social hosts are always a joy

Phenomenal paper, one of my absolute favs! 2 points: 1) prospect theory is a *descriptive* model of choice. Choice still there, new work is getting us closer to understanding mechanism. 2) not clear whether choices are response to risk, and people apply same heuristic to similar non-risk contexts

We still have a relatively poor understanding of the relationship between evidence and policy. Program evaluation in particular is often motivated by a desire to make policy better. But how effective is program evaluation itself?Michelle Rao's JMP tackles this question. www.michellerao.com/research
