Motherhood must not be forced upon nor withheld from women. It must be an uncoerced choice, because it permanently changes not only her body and mind, but also her life.

There are women who want to have babies and women who don't want to have babies. Why are we spending so much time being mad at women who don't want babies when that energy could be directed at supporting the women who do want babies??

A little shift in my content and a new name: The Feminist Motherhood, where I examine the intersection of feminism and motherhood, and prove they are not at odds.

Hello dear ones. I have reached the point of burn out. I'm going to step away from deconstruction social media and focus on myself, something fundamentalism commands against. "You must serve to the point of exhaustion" was preached from bible studies pulpits at my church. +

In the wake of the TNE report and subsequent defense of toxic behavior by its followers, I will be immersing myself in Rachel Held Evans’s content. Because whatever that leadership model was is what we desperately need.

The New Evangelicals were investigated for misconduct and left the results to be published by others. This is just a reminder that if you are a white cishet male, you have extra deconstructing and decolonizing to do and we don’t talk about it enough. tnereckoning.com/summary 1/3

I’ve found a nice lil cozy spot over in Threads and am really enjoying it. Some really great feminist work going on there.

Another Deconstruction Chronicle is live, featuring @daaaave-atx.bsky.social's story! thedeconstructionchronicles.substack.com/p/a-deconstr... I started this project to feature deconstruction stories to combat the lies spread about deconstruction by conservative evangelicals.

One of my frustrations with this app is liberals don’t get to see me clap back to the theobros and that’s a huge bit of context missing to understand who I am & what I’m about. You need to see me wield the Bible like an actual sword against the men who claim its monopoly before you really know me.

Turns out life is short and it sucks so I will not be taking life advice from people who thought it was a great idea to spend your best years working to make rich people richer and sought to block marginalized groups from building wealth.

Don’t just say DEI as if it’s a bad word. Spell it out. Say diversity, which is the lifeblood of American society & culture & innovation. Say equity, which a just society should pursue. Say inclusion, because decent people believe in increasing belonging, not isolating people who are different.

One way to spot misogyny real quick is when someone calls men “men” and women “females.”

When I say that MAGA Christians are real Christians and we need to grapple with that, I’m not just pulling that out of my butt. Jewish folks have seen the ugliest side of Christianity the longest and it’s imperative we learn from them.

The men in the White House are acting like men traditionally have for centuries. There are men who like this, men who deny/are indifferent to this, and men who want to fight this… and they need to be willing to let women lead that fight.

It would do the left wonders to become more conversant in evangelicalism. It’s kinda hard to understand what’s going on right now without having a grid for why it’s happening.

EVEN BIBLICAL SCHOLARS recognize how intentional translation choices about Pharisees perpetuate harmful stereotypes! It's not just us uppity Jews fabricating stuff to irritate Christians!
Screenshot of a 3-skeet thread by Matt Thiessen @mattthiessen.bsky.social‬

The NRSV translation of Luke-Acts is so frustrating.

When Luke-Acts uses the Greek word akribēs in proximity to references to the Pharisees (Acts 22:3; 26:5), NRSV translates it as 'strictly'/'strictest', which to most readers likely implies something negative. But...

when Luke-Acts uses akribēs elsewhere, e.g., Luke's investigation into Jesus (Luke 1:3), or Apollos's instruction in the Way and Priscilla and Aquila's further instruction of Apollos in the Way (Acts 18:25-26), the NRSV uses 'accurate' or 'careful.'

Such translation decisions not only enable but positively encourage Christian readers to continue to portray the Pharisees in derogatory ways.

And unfortunately the NRSVue doesn't overcome this problem.

There are two Americas: one fighting for white cis-het supremacy and one fighting for equality and inclusion. The first one lost for a while in modern times, so long that the second thought they didn’t exist anymore.

I hate to be the one to break it to Stephen King but this is what Trumpers have wanted all along. They wanted to keep the parts that benefited them (white supremacy) and trash the rest (DEI, equality, etc). You can trace this back decades through white evangelicalism.
