New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Taxing Entrepreneurial Wealth: Evidence from
Norway, 2021-2025
Marius A. K. Ring
WORKING PAPER 35854|
DOl 10.3386/w35854
ISSUE DATE October 2026
Whether imposing higher taxes on business owners adversely affects business activity by constraining investment and inducing capitalist flight is a central question in the ongoing debate on how to tax the ultra wealthy. To shed new light, I exploit a series of related Norwegian reforms during 2021-2024 that increased dividend tax rates, removed migration-related capital gains tax loopholes, and nearly doubled the effective marginal tax rate on business wealth. These reforms spurred international debate and, allegedly, an "exodus" of Norwegian billionaires (Financial Times,
2023). While I document clear effects on migration, these responses are concentrated among the top 0.1% of the wealth distribution and mostly confined to 2022 and 2023. My results indicate that at most 100 individuals left due to the reforms. I find no evidence of significant outmigration or reduced inflows of startup founders or inventors. I estimate that absent any outmigration, wealth tax revenues would have increased by 75% from 2021 to 2024. Reform-driven outmigration lowers the revenue gain to 71.5%. My findings further show that outmigrating owners' firms remain economically active and do not reduce investment. In a broader set of analyses, I examine whether business outcomes are affected, regardless of whether owners outmigrate, since firms may reduce investment both due to liquidity constraints or distortions to owners' savings decisions. I compare firms owned by Norwegian individuals subject to the wealth tax with firms owned by foreigners and other tax-exempt entities. By merging historical ownership data from Orbis with the Norwegian shareholder register, I perform these analyses on both Norwegian and foreign-domiciled firms.
Across settings, I find no evidence that Norwegian-owned firms pay out more dividends or invest less after the reforms,…

I bought a lifetime subscription a while ago myself but you don't have to, even just $5 a month is insanely helpful with enough people paying into this! FA is where I started taking commissions, and has helped me grow as an artist. I'm happy to give back! 🧡 I hope those of y'all who can, will.

Dragoneer would talk to me AlOT about this. FA is basically ran for the community and not for money. But it still needs it to run. If you can support the staff in anyway you can. Please do. Right now FA+ is probably the best way.

FA regardless of your personal feelings, is the core of the fandom and losing it would mean YEARS AND YEARS of art, messages, pages, and memorials for people that have passed, would be gone. We CANNOT allow ourselves to rely simply on sites like bsky, twitter, insta, etc. etc. to be our defaults.

This is so wild to me, My entire motto as an artist since going freelance is "paid today, done today." I have spent the last two years constructing my entire work flow around only offering commissions I can finish same day. And I've grown from a sketch a day to finishing full paintings in a day.

020

Nolow @nolow.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

To be clear, My Pet-peeve is when commissioners try to take control of camera angles, posing, and positioning. It feels like they are dictating to me to make exactly their vision... not mine... I know some artist like this but I need the freedom to push my art and make "My Art"

Nolow @nolow.bsky.social · 07/09/2026

Artist: I need complete control of the composition and I need your trust that I will do amazing things. (Especially since I finish artwork same-day that I take payment) Just a simple/general idea. Like X having an intimate moment with Y, or X eating Y after a long day at work. Thats all I need.

Here, enjoy some ANCIENT art from the pre-hexacult days (2010) that I made for various reasons. The first one was for an RPG Maker 2003 project that never went anywhere. The Time Dorks! The second shows I've been into taurs since forever. The third is still one of the best things I've ever made.

Pixel art of three enemy sprites. On the left, there is a golden floating orb with clockwork and gears protruding from it. In the center is an angry looking stone face with glowing blue eyes, surrounding by flying clocks. On the right, there is a slate gray skinned anthropomorphic creature that looks vaguely like a kobold, holding a pocketwatch on a chain in one hand, with a large clock strapped to its back, surrounding by protruding clock hands at every hour mark

Pixel art of a tauric creature with a mostly humanoid upper body, and the lower body of a quadrupedal, silver furred beast of some kind, with four paws and a long conical tail ending in a tuft. He is wrapped in strips of vermilion cloth, serving as clothing, and holding a silver spear in his left hand.

A pixel art image of an anthropomorphic ferret space pirate in a bandana and swashbuckling garb, holding his hand up to a flying metal beetle robot holding a glowing orb, standing on a craggy rocky outcropping at the edge of a lagoon. There is a huge ringed gas giant in the background, and a much smaller moon or planet in the far distance behind it. The whole image is a mix of grays and greens, with just a few browns in the ferret's fur and outfit. There are exactly 21 unique colors used.

Love how this dude discovered the cheat codes of "what if I listened to constituents" and "what if I modeled good behavior" and "maybe I behave like a normal person should." These are apparently dark secrets that have been hidden from other politicians.
