This fella was in the middle of the sidewalk this afternoon. Not sure if it was cold (high of 53 today), but I’ve never seen a dragonfly sitting out like that before.

Black dragonfly sitting on a wet concrete sidewalk. Wingspan is about three inches, the body and abdomen are black with light patches, the eyes are a dark red, and the wings are transparent. Might be a black petaltail dragonfly.

The moon is awesome tonight. An upcoming conjunction between Jupiter and Mercury is coming (closest approach will be on June 25), so keep an eye out for that, too.

Waxing crescent moon, slightly hazy due to the weather and because the photographer was trying to hand-hold a 600mm lens during a 1/60 second exposure.

Tiny ‘shrooms. Oak leaf for scale. Frustrating that I couldn’t get the phone camera to focus on the mushroom. Great detail on the leaf, though.

Geese. For as far as the eye can see…

A pond covered (literally) with Canada geese. These are the small size, about as big as a large mallard. And very very noisy. Green and yellow trees are visible in the background, with large very dark-green oaks visible behind them. The sky is cloudy and pale blue.
